  6.  @truthmatters2782  Of course foreign powers want to weaken a Communist imperialist hegemon that will be no better than than Imperial Japan or the Third Reich in WWII. Duh! The difference is the Chicom economy can be shut off with ease. China is surrounded by enemies, as well as full of enemies within, all waiting for an opportunity to rip thhe PRC to shreds. A war with Taiwan would provide that opportunity and the CCP will be fushed down the toilet of history.

  7. The USA figured that it wouldb be tied up for at least two years fighting in Taiwan, and it would be easier to bypass it, go to Okinawa, and mostly just cut Formosa off from Japan.

  8.  @ronschlorff7089  At the time, the atom bomb hadn't even been tested and a conventional invasion of Japan was in the works. Troops and planes from Europe were beginning to arrive on Okinawa. That being said, the bombs worked, ended the war, and saved lives.

  9. What is left out is that China is surrounded by enemies, as well as full of enemies within. How much effort would it take to arm Tibet, Xinjiang, and Mongolia? If China starts a war, it could face a half-dozen simultaneously, while facing collapse of its economy due to denial of access to world markets. Think of the issues caused by COVID lockdown throughout the whole of the PRC, except the people have guns, and aren't too happy about the body bags that return containing their only sons. Soon, Xi would be hanging upside-down from a street light, if his brain aneurysm doesn't claim him first. That being said, US "private advisors" have never left Taiwan, active US military personnel take "vacations" here to go on walks on the beach and hikes in the mountains, and about 80,000 US citizens live here.
