Tim's going to the Moooooooooooooooon. Rather u than me Tim.

Destin also mentions the fact that a Raptor restarting in space is just as nutty, no redundancy
2
Artemis aka SLS works and went around the moon Starship on the otherhand explodes.
2
Elon Musk isn't a genius. He is a techno-ponzi vaporware sales man who rides the waves of his inflated stock prices.
2
This is the big elephant in the room. Destin only touches on this briefly. Starship HLS is a ridiculous idea with no redundancy. Thats why they all laugh at 46:29 That cgi rendering says it all no redundancy and way to complicated .
2
@YR2050 if u do proper engineering and dynamic testing on the ground u dont have a all-up test failing twice for different reasons.

Spaceshuttle and Falcon 9 have proven with out any doubt that re-usability is not cheaper or more rapid than expendable. Also starship HLS is designed as a one time lander not to be reused. It is also very doubtful that starship and superheavy are going to deliver on the promise of rapid and cheap reuse. They couldn't get this right with falcon 9 after 10 years of development. With starship they are years behind schedule, they were supposed to fly twice a month in 2022. The point Destin makes SpaceX intends to use turbopump engines for lunar ascent which has no redundancy. People get impressed by the cgi renderings and animated video's. This is a far stretch from reality and a functioning system

But but , Elon knows more about manufacturing than anybody else alive.....

Artemis SLS is ready to go. They launched around the moon already. Starship on the other hand 5 billion 2 failed launches and no design for lifesupport yet.
1
@ArKritz84 If Starship works as advertised which it won't. You are completely right about Falcon 9. in 2009 a seat on a soyuz was about 40 million inflation adjusted. Now space x charges with re-use 88 million. On the other hand SLS and Orion already flew around the moon as advertised while space x is struggling to produce reliable raptors and have no idea why the front fell of Starship in their last flight.
1
@sarakajira I think u are missing the point Starship is already billions over budget, years behind schedule, and an estimated cost per launch of around 2 billion dollars. Falcon 9 has proven there are no real cost savings with a partially reusable system. U say ''once it gets proven out over a few launches''. Here is the problem this is a big if because they are a long way of from anything functioning as advertised. Also SLS and Orion already flew they are ready to go.
1
Starlink needs ground based stations to work. They are basically routers in space they work only at close range
1
The elephant as in the techno turkey superheavy and starship
1
Just like Falcon 9 right at 88 million a seat to LEO While in 2010 it was 50 million a seat inflation adjusted.

Name one great product.

@jefflowrythor Can u post some links on how the boring company has contributed to making advances in making tunnels? Also a cost breakdown how Falcon 9 is making spaceflight to orbit better and cheaper with reuse. Cars are open to interpretation so i will leave cybertruck out. Also a comparison of starlink to other satelliet internet companies. I would like to ad that Musk did say the best part is no part. So explain to me why is launching 15 times is better than one. And why is using a complex turbopump engine better for lifting of the moon than a simple one part pressure fed engine?
1
Elon is part of the problem not part of the solution. Besides Elon is not a engineer.
1
Why? Elon knows more about manufacturing than anybody else currently alive.
1
@wolfgangpreier9160 ULA has a 100% launch succes rate.
1
Even with re usability it isn't financially viable. Look at the falcon 9 which is partially re-usable. 88 million dollars a seat while in 2009 even with adjustment for inflation a seat on a sojuz was 40 million dollars.
1
One lunar descent and ascent with Starship HLS needs fifteen launches to tank it up.
1
Do u actually believe SpaceX? A company run by the biggest con-man of all time
