  10. The last NASA and industry partners teleconference was very insightful. Jessica Jensen from spaceX didn't even give one straight answer, she was in ass covering overdrive. Basically claiming that everything they do on Flacon 9 is the Same for starship. Also claiming they are now in the flight prototyping phase and they can fly as many times as they want. This is just a bald face lie given the permit they have at Boca Chica restricts them from flying more than 10 times a year.

  24. NASA has a long and very well recorded history in looking the other way until things go bad. Once it becomes painfully obvious the Mission architecture (Starship/superheavy in this case) is not going to work and/or is going to fall short of what was promised and is going way over budget only then will NASA investigate the situation with a committee. Since Lueders is on the other side of the fence now we might see her being investigated to since she signed of on spacex's proposal for HLS. This is years down the road. It is sad Billions of US tax dollars are being wasted developing some useless rocket/starship. One thing is clear now, real engineers and not some YouTube influences are seeing the flaws in the architecture now. What Destin did was not naming the elephant in the room directly but he called out how ludicrous this mission profile is.

This can only happen after the implosion which means that everybody onboard would have been dead and the sub would be in pieces. As a prime example, in a year Tesla has more OSHA violations than all the other automakers in the US combined. Figures why OSHA is now being gutted by DOGE. The department of transportation which has ongoing investigations in Tesla's FSD and people getting injured and killed in accidents caused by FSD. they are being shut down and inspector generals are being fired.   60.  @subboid  Nobody said re-usable rockets would never happen or work, The problem with reuse is that it is not very cost effective. it is merely a saving of about 10% which in return your payload capacity with the initial launch is much less, because u need fuel to land the stage. Also SpaceX failed to reuse the entire vehicle. Soft landing dragon was canceled and re-entering and landing the 2nd stage for reuse was also canceled so Flacon 9 is only partially re-usable.. The turn around time for a stage is still about a month which is only marginally faster than with the space shuttle. even inflation adjusted the cost to launch a astronaut to the ISS is about 20 million dollars more expensive now than it was in 2010. So no i don't see any great improvement here with reuse, besides launching payloads to LEO isn't anything new, it has been done since the 60's and more reliably since the early 80's.

  63. As someone who follows spaceflight very closely. These astronauts were NEVER stranded ''left up there'' or abandoned, this is not a ''serious'' situation. NASA simply chose to not fly them back to earth in the Boeing starliner, instead they decided to wait for the next mission in rotation. This next mission has been docked to the ISS since last September, its return date was already scheduled so that these astronauts can come back. That was the plan since day one and was worked out as a contingency before they even launched!. NASA always has contingencies in place with human spaceflight. This whole story is just untrue and a Trump/Musk PR stunt. Think about it why would u fly a extra ''rescue'' mission when they can come back on one that is already planned and is there right now! If Trump and Musk were serious into government fraud waste and abuse they would know flying extra is not efficient and very costly. It is worth mentioning that these government costs by having SpaceX launching extra would only benefit one person, and that is Elon Musk.

Lots of manufactures also use basic adhesive tapes to stick cosmetic pieces to the car. This has been done for decades now. What happend to the cybertruck is just bad build quality combined with a severe lack of development and testing. We have seen this lack of R&D before from Tesla.

This last flight they again had a engine failure, this was even after 2 static test fires on the pad, Raptor reliability just isn't there. Also the acoustics are a problem if they are intending to launch any payload with just the booster. It isn't a problem now because they don't have any payload. This last flight they jettisoned the hotstage ring to save weight at booster landing, this is going against their rapid re-use philosophy, ie launching with just refueling. With all the constant redesigns they are drifting further and further from the rapid re-usable heavy launch systeem they intended to make.

  87. Usually u test components right up and to destruction on the ground. This is called dynamic testing. This is why there is a dynamic test stand in Huntsville big enough to fit a entire Saturn v. This stand was also used for the shuttle and is still used today. All-up testing like space x does is very costly. And in-effective because they cant monitor or creep up on the vehicle failure. This is evident to the fact that flight control didn't even know the vehicle had a failure. When nasa launched sls every inch of the rocket and orion was laced with sensors. I dont see much evidence of spacex doing that in any capacity. This is strange considering they claim this is all for the data.

  92. Its real simple, SpaceX got the contract for HLS (human landing system) which is part of Artemis. This 3 billion (now 4) contract was awarded to SpaceX almost single handedly by Nasa employee Kathy Lueders. She did this in the interim while NASA was looking for a new administrator. a few months after awarding this contract Kathy Lueders went to work for..... SPACEX. Now after 5 years spaceX collected almost all the contract money and they delivered none of the functioning hardware as per the contract. The government accountability office was doing a audit of this contract, with musk in the Whitehouse i'am sure this will be closed down.

Dave Dywer of the APL testified that he wanted to share the CF hull specifics to the foundry that were engineering and making the Titanium domes and rings so they could match it to each other. Tony Nissen was strongly against this, even when Dave Dywer did share some engineering plans of the CF hull with foundry Tony Nissen got so upset this resulting in APL severing relations with Ocean Gate. Tony's version of events is that they did eventuality match the rings to the V1 CF hull. If this was the case i wonder why Dave Dwyer is testifying the exact opposite.

  101. Raptor reliability is a big problem for SpaceX, they have continuously had problems with them, even multiple a re-lights still hasn't been done yet. For their last 3 test flights of starship/superheavy it appears they only run them at 75% throttle to increase reliability. Sadly the downside is apparent the payload capacity is much less than expected, probably less than 50 tons to LEO and 0 to TLI. U can ask the question they build the biggest rocket ever and it is still outperformed by a rocket that was designed and build in the 60''s with slide rules. We need to stop comparing a system that only exists in theory and cgi renderings to rocket systems that actually u know, worked.

  117. Except for the Artemis program and its ridicules architecture there is no real use for a super heavy lift rocket like that in a commercial application. Uses for its payload capacity are few and far in between. Keeping this architecture mothballed is to expensive just like with the Saturn V. This is if and only if he delivers something close to what was promised which is doubtful. When Artemis is cancelled or goes in a different direction we will probably see it scrapped or being turned into something else. This wil probably be a toned down version of what was promised anyways.

If u read the transcript of this conversation u can clearly see Nissen is vested in Rush and in every decision he made including not having the hull scanned for defects and severing relations with APL. Nissen was part of the problem Lochridge was trying to adres. In that period Nissen enabled Rush to make all these design changes and there is very little information available Nissen spoke out about any of this.

The astronauts are simply waiting for the next mission in rotation to hitch a ride back on. This just happens to be a Spacex Dragon capsule because it was the next in rotation. Also spaceX is doing nothing revolutionary in space exploration. The dragon capsule is basically a automated apollo command module (with helium leaks and battery problems), Falcon 9's landing system has been done since the 60's and it wasn't very cost effective then just as it is now. Falcon 9 also isnt the fast reuse vehicle as it was indented, its turn-around is marginally faster than the shuttle and unlike the shuttle Falcon 9 only the first stage is being landed and reused. Starship is dead on arrival because its raptor engines remain unreliable and they are seriously overweight with the whole system. Starlink is a very tedious way to make satellite internet, it is for the most part funded by government agency's. i could go on and on......

  135.  @SpaceAdvocate  In IFT-2 the common bulkhead of superheavy failed. It is obvious there was a pogo event which smashed the common bulkhead causing the fuel and oxidizer to mix inside the booster, hence the very big explosion once a ignition source was found. This is actually quite rare that a booster fails and there is mixing of the propellants causing this big explosion. A FTS trigger would rip open both tanks expelling the Fuel and oxidizer so that mixing can't occur so u get only a small explosion. In other words they have some serious structural problems to sort out with the booster before it gets anywhere near reliable or re-usable. Yes they got all the engines to work at lift off. Don't forget it took months of testing and swapping out bits to achieve this. Far from rapidly re-usable or reliable. Also they are pushing the raptor engines to the max which in itself is a bad idea for full flow combustion engines. And starship itself is at this point just a boiler-plate article far from anything that can carry humans or even remotely resembles a spacecraft. They can't even get the heat shield tiles to stick on properly. No they are far from anything what was promised just like with falcon 9 they couldn't even achieve rapid reuse after 11 years.

  140. Well the initial launch was better. All raptor engines worked and the pad stayed mostly intact. The problems occurred during the hot-staging., the avionics and instruments are directly under the hot-staging ring. They got roasted during staging. This is why super-heavy failed to re-ignite, also the empty super-heavy was losing pressure at this point indicated by the venting. This caused structural failure on the vehicle and the FTS was triggered. Musk and SpaceX stated they hoped they would recover the booster at least. 33 raptors lost at 1 million dollars a piece is a pretty big loss. So in 2 flights they lost 66 million dollars worth of engines alone. This is all taxpayers money, NASA awarded them 1.8 billion dollars to develop Starship and demonstrate its abilities. They are still a long way off from their promises. Artemis Orion and SLS are ready to go on the other hand.

The reason the FAA has to do a lengthy and complete disaster analysis after every Starship launch is because every Starship and every test article til now has ended up as a uncontrolled flying wreckage (for different reasons every time) or even worse the FTS didn't work at all. If Musk and SpaceX spend a little more time on their design and engineering fase before launching and actually completed a successful flight the FAA wouldn't have to start a disaster analysis after every launch. All the CGI renderings of living on the surface for instance, many scientists have pointed out u cant live on the surface of Mars because of the radiation. Also traveling to Mars and the psychological effects of the extreme isolation have been studied by NASA and ESA for many decades now. They simulated a trip to mars by putting a group of 6 in isolation for 18 months. This the longest test they ever did and It was a disaster, and these were trained astronauts and scientists. Musk is proposing sending groups of a 100 random civilians a year to go live on mars permanently. It is utter nonsense. Besides any reasonable person would argue u should go and try to colonize the moon first just to refine your engineering and test everything out. SpaceX has no plans for this.

The dragon on the ground landing system they couldn't get that working, the 2nd stage re-usability also ditched, the first stage would be rapid re-usable which its not really and the payload price to orbit would be 10 times cheaper, which its also not and this is even with reuse of the first stage. Also the vertical landing concept was worked out in the early 90s with Delta clipper program. They already figured out back then it wasn't economical to land and reuse boosters. So no bringing payloads to LEO for almost the same price as 20 years ago isn't very impressive.

  211. Rocket reuse exists since the early 80s, but are referring to Falcon 9 i suppose. Falcon 9 is only partially re-usable and this stil takes over a month. The 2nd stage of falcon 9 is expandable even though spaceX promised 10 years ago it would be re-usable. Also re-usability reduces your payload capacity significantly because u need fuel to land the stage. In the the end with reuse it only cuts cost by less than 10%.

The Apollo CSM launch abort was tested on the little joe rocket and not a Saturn vehicle and the same goes for the parachutes. why waste a entire vehicle if u are only going to test part of it. Space X could have easily build a smaller stage and launched it on a Falcon 9 just to test the vacuum optimized raptors and their re-lights.

A key metric in this flight would have been for superheavy and starship being structurally sound so it can at least survive the initial testing phase. Which in this case would be surviving the test flight without structural failure. Both vehicles separately suffered a structural failure to the point that with starship flight control didn't even know it failed until minutes later, u could say it was unexpected. Dynamic testing a vehicle on the ground so u can methodically and in a controlled environment incremental test up and right to a structural failure would be agile methodology. Because with this testing method which is the standard in aerospace engineering u can very precisely monitor en review your metrics which is exactly what agile methodology is, review and monitor. This is not what spaceX does, they do ''all up testing'' which is not methodical by any stretch and always yields less data because your paramaters aren't in a controlled environment. All up testing with a vehicle which hasn't been dynamically tested on the ground is just using trial and error.

It is obvious there was a pogo event which smashed the common bulkhead causing the fuel and oxidizer to mix inside the booster, hence the very big explosion once a ignition source was found. This is actually quite rare that a booster fails and there is mixing of the propellants causing this big explosion. A FTS trigger would rip open both tanks expelling the Fuel and oxidizer so that mixing can't occur so u get only a small explosion. Also SpaceX didn't know what happend and they never mentioned a FTS trigger. If the FTS was triggered they would've know immediately and called it out. The ship never reached a realistic max-Q because Starship is only a empty shell at this point. So the correct weight and dynamic pressures on the vehicle are not being exerted.

  269. That aft section was merely attached with 3 or 4 poorly designed struts which were attached in various ways with stainless bolts to the titanium ring. Wouldn't take much for it to pop off. In many pictures u can actually see those aft struts/ribs were sagging from the weight of the battery's and other equipment.

The transcript is redacted but u can make out who is who. Nissen is very vocal that there is nothing wrong with what they are doing and is completely complacent to Rush. While his testimony now is quite the opposite. According to the transcript and other documents Nissen wasn't sharing technical documents with lochridge needed for his inspection. I feel at that time Nissen was part of the problem Lochridge was trying fight when it comes to the safety and engineering concerns. Nissen was completely vested that it would work and was convinced a scan of the hull wasn't needed.

  366. There is literally no reason to survey a wreck in a manned submersible. Survey work can easily be done with ROV's which do it much cheaper and can stay down days at time. This whole manned survey thing is just a excuse to give some scientific validity to what is in fact tourism.

Now space x charges with re-use 88 million. On the other hand SLS and Orion already flew around the moon as advertised while space x is struggling to produce reliable raptors and have no idea why the front fell of Starship in their last flight.

Falcon 9 has proven there are no real cost savings with a partially reusable system. U say ''once it gets proven out over a few launches''. I wil give u this. the only reason spaceX hasn't gone bust yet is because they get allot of tax breaks and government subsidy. For starlink alone they got 900 million in 2020. In 2022 they missed out on a 800 million subsidy because the service they provided wasn't what was promised. They have a 2.9 billion dollar contract with NASA to get starship to to the moon by 2025. to achieve this they were supposed to fly 2 a year by 2022. Also the Flacon 9 stil isnt 10 times cheaper as was promised by spaceX. After 6 years of development it is barely 10% cheaper. And the rapid reuse-ability is also a fluke. considering it takes over 40 days to make a booster flight ready again. compared to the space shuttle 60 days that was designed in the 1970s. So Elon Musk and his company's, more vaporware and empty promises than anything else.

  391.  @natix1_  Rocket stages have been landing since the early 90s. hell in the 60s there were doing it on the moon. The reason why this hasn't been done in the context of rocket reuse is because it isn't very cost effective. Falcon 9 has proven this.. about a 10% cost saving on a multi 100 million dollar payload isnt very interesting. This kind of re-use also has serious payload and accuracy limitations which falcon 9 has also proven with its non reusable high thrust upper stage.

  401. investing in re usability is pointless falcon 9 has proven this time and again. it only saves about 10% of launch costs, which in total is about 50 million dollars a launch. On a a multi 100 million dollar payload this saving is kinda pointless. Also the high thrust upper stage isn't good for accuracy so it renders your usable Launch market very small.

SpaceX always ditches the mission profile and tailors it to what actually happend so they can call every mission a succes. When it comes to dynamic testing, as the CSS pointed out in his video starship and super heavy both had structural failures in flight independent from each other. In aerospace incremental testing to failure is done on the ground and from there u make your design changes. Only then u fly. The fact they didn't even notice that starship failed makes it painfully obvious they expected it to not structurally fail. So no they didn't do the incremental testing to test the design, they go ''all up'' which is costly and for testing purposes not very controlled so it yields less usable data. Also i don't see any information about sensors to gather data. Also the fact they didn't release any onboard footage yet is telling. Starship probably was buckling long before they lost contact. They don't release such footage because of the bad press. So ironically there are indeed allot of similarities between starship and the Soviet N1.

Yes they dug some trenches but the ChNPP staff took measurements afterwards turns out to get only your anual powerplant worker limit dosis u had to spend 300 days in the trench. And even then you are far from contaminated. Also the suposed rise in radiaton the area sensors picked up wasnt because they drove their vehicles thru contaminated land. The sensors picked up the communication equipment the russians had with them. It is obvious the media just wanted to make allot of clickbait articles and they arent interested in proper fact finding.

Yes the Russians dug some trenches, after they left the ChNPP personnel took radiation measurements of said trenches and found that if someone would have stayed for more than 300 days in the trench they only would have received the equivalent of a powerplant workers annual limit which is far from being contaminated. Also the radiation sensors placed over the area did indeed pick up a rise of radiation which was the result of the Russians army communication equipment not stirred up dust from the surrounding lands. Also the hospital where the media reported the contaminated Russian soldiers were brought to doesn't even treat radiation sickness.

The new and improved Starship v2 which is going to be longer will do 150 tons and it fly somewhere next year if u believe Musk which i don't. Fun fact even Falcon Heavy outperforms Starship.

  431.  @The-Boulder-official  Judging by the video footage that cybertruck front panel is a nightmare to glue. stainless is a very stiff material and has quite the thermal expansion coëfficiënt, so gluing this with panel bond was not very well thought out. same goes for the cant rail. I read the Tesla recall report they are now switching over to mechanical fasteners stud welded to the back of the panel. This a nightmare fix Most of the cars have the panel still glued on so trying to get that off is shear misery.

  441. With the base model BYD u get FSD for free, Compared to Tesla this FSD actually works because it uses Lidar and radar systems. What ever all the Tesla fans claim, Tesla's FSD it still doesn't function properly and causes many accidents. There is a reason Tesla is being investigated by the NHTSA and already has multiple lawsuits (some class action) ongoing of people being injured or getting killed.
