  1. It's some hipster's way of lumping a lot of artists into one name, which diminishes what all the artists achieved. I grew up in the 80's listening to that era's rock and metal. In the 90's the derogatory name "hair metal" came out. It was more of an insult to that genre. To this day I despise that name. I refer to it as 80's rock or 80's metal.
