How did you end up from 1-2 kids to gender imbalance? Gender imbalance in china is because their culture. They did literally kill either kill girl childs or throw them to dumpster (pretty much the same). Not to mention that we can control now gender of a child. "Wait till the population ages and there aren't enough young workers to support the economy" Wait till old people die and the balance will come back. Yes It will affect economy at first, but in long term it will be balanced by time.

You seriously think that world will suddenly have new supplies of oil, fresh water, iron, wood etc... Whenever we reach our population cap? RESOURCES are the problem and so is the living space. If we want more resourcers than we have now, we need to destroy more nature. Even then we need more, and this planet has its limit. Some countries are living proof for this. Too many people in island, and no more trees there when they pretty much consumed them all.

Idricool did pretty much answer to your comment. But yeah there are always downsides for actions. But in this case those downsides will be balanced out during time. It's not like china will keep doing 1 child policy forever. Only until populace is balanced. Which is a right thing to do. As people have already pointed out. Rather suffer from that, than something bigger.

True there is a way to purify, but there is a one problem with it... In order to purify water you need energy or fire. Usually fire. Now tell me how do people usually tend to do fire? With wood. Now what happens if we cut large amounts of wood before it can replenish. We will have problem with oxygen then, and other ecological disasters. There is a limit how much this planet can hold us.

What stupid policy? They are only country which realizes problem of over population. Heck, rather have 1-2 child/s per family than lose whole mankind in worst case of scenario.

Yeah and more we wait instead of doing, the worse the problem gets. Once child policy was the best way to get uneducated and still superstitious people to make less childs. It take very long time before education actually affects population and if were realistic, it would be too late until everyone would have less offsprings during time. Unfortunately people need someone to tell them to do something. Well most people need. Very rare people do things on their own without being forced.

@sweetsuds91 I've never said that education doesn't work. I have only said that it takes too long, and were already running out of time. Most fastest way is one child policy and china started that in year 1979. They still have too many people in their country and their country's population is causing more pollution. There has been calculations that if all the world would live close to western stantards, we would run out of all resources fast. Oil doesn't last forever. There is water, but there isn't enough fresh water. Learn the difference. You can only drink fresh water, not a sea water. I did already state that Food isn't a problem if we all use genetically manipulated food and eat only plants. More people and more wood we need to cut to keep people warm too.

Wtf where do you get this over 100 times over information? We are already low on fresh water. People are already fighting wars for oil (iraq). Heck were cutting rainforest down simply to get more farmland and more wood to to western countries. Please cite your sources.

First of all, I don't buy a lot of stuff. I only really need food, computer and a house. I'm not buying much extra unless it's actually needed. I'm not interested in owning cars or a diamond pony. Yeah nationalism is part of the problem. Sure I know that force shouldn't be almost never used. But when it's too late already, then drastic moves are only way to fix it. We already have problem with population. By the time education really hits, it's already too late then.

I'm not that interested in having kids, but unfortunately as long as idiots like you exists I need to have at least 1 baby to make sure that word isn't totally idiotic. You know that fact that IQ and number of kids are usually tied by the fact that smart people usually abort or use condoms to avoid having too many babies.
