@kevinclement1533 He was mere clown. His name translates as such. And Oda was known to mock people around and use them as oddities for sake of his amusement. He wouldn't been spared if he was a real warrior. Also you do realize that pets in western world live better lifestyle standards than 80% of the people on this planet?
19
@Kosithegod As mockery, if you knew japanese you would know that even his name is mockery.
10
Pretty insane to call marx as pacifist. He was literally advocating for bloodshed and even tyrannical rulership. Writers never read his work.
5
@AyeYoBoxingWithMadiba no he actually said historically accurate parts of the character. It was literally mentioned in sources that he was hired as retainer because Oda found his appearance as amusing. His name is also clearly japanese in this case, which means he was renamed. The name given was insult. Only time he actually have any record of participating a battle is after Oda was already dead and the fact he was captured. Means he never fought but instead surrendered the moment combatants arrived. Actual "samurai" wouldn't let themselves to be capture. They fight to the death. He was also spared precisely because they just viewed him as circus monkey for Oda and pitied him for that. All historical facts.
4
@jojo_static "worthy fighter"... dude he was slave. How he could ever fight against guy's who trained to fight their entire life? "He was trained in combat before arriving in Japan," Literally no information in any history book about his origin. He was just mentioned as tall black man who Oda found as amusing. Then him losing one single battle he took part and got exiled after being called as an animal.
3
@poloshirtsamurai You don't get to survive if you fight back in war. So most likely he just surrendered the moment real combat happened.
3
@frustratedplayer "fought off the traitors" by surrendering to them xD
3
@SusCalvin You would need to be nobility class to be part of knight. I'm sure you never even read history books... The price of knight's armor was already more than 10 000 peasants could make in an year.
3
@frustratedplayer how does someone who is fighting get captured against armed forces? Only way to be captured in combat is by surrendering. He wasn't some warrior, samurai would've either killed themselves or fight to the bitter end. Thus proving, he was never a warrior. Just a pet for Oda who was already known to be eccentric person who makes mockery of people around him.
3
@AyeYoBoxingWithMadiba No, what you know is some talking points made by people who don't read history. First of all his name is insult in japanese. Suke means assistant and Ya means despicable . Can you connect the puzzles? The writings themselves never mention of him partaking in any battle, all they mention is that Oda was interested in his looks. So Oda basically made him into pet and gave him mockery name. Also you do realize that Oda was gnocidal person? He wasn't the good guy of the story. Facts are... you don't get captured in war unless you surrender yourself. There is only single battle known where he was and he was captured in it. HE was let go because he was seen as pet beats to ODA and the guy pitied him. HE wasn't viewed as warrior.
3
@ToxicVex267 tranalate words from his name. It's generic insult name. Oda was notorious about mocking his retainers with demeaning nicknames.
3
@barnettmcgowan8978 nothing to do with racism even japanese hate this in general. As shown in IG's japan trailer. Also no would would care about female ninja because they literally existed. Women were in fact common assassins.
3
He was basically court clown because Oda was amused by his skin color.
3
@Wolfenzorn it was ceremonial not made for battle
3
@zzxp1 I did watch but you didn't. Every samurai has to train art of swordmanship. Whetever they have experience in war is different thing. " he shared the responsabilities of a rank" He literally has only been recorded to be just a paige. And literally reason why he was hired by Oda is in same writings mentioned that he just found his look funny. Only time he was recorded to be in battle, he surrendered the moment armed forces were near him.
2
@zzxp1 You clearly never read anything regarding to him beside "w0ke" articles. He lived there only one year. You think that he would be able to beat full fledged samurai who has been practicing art of swordmanship for around 20-years? "He had a house a servant " Yes he had, but it still doesn't make him anything else than glorified pet to Oda. IT was literally stated that he only hired him because his look amused him. Oda was known from eccentric nature. He would never risk his pet to have risk of injury in field of battle. " for him to be used in a work of fiction." Because it's racist toward japanese people.
2
@zzxp1 You serious? You can't figured out on your own? I guess you never even played assassin creed games.
2
@zzxp1 Okay imagine this. Assassin creed is setup in African within the Zulu tribe. But instead of playing as bIack in the tribe fighting against templars who are colonialists... You're fighting as whlte man against zulu. Maybe that was too complex for you.. Let's use this example. Setup in Ghana. I doubt you even know what it's but it's ancient african empire. Instead of being native to ghana you are playing as white slave (they did in fact buy sl@ves in Ghanan). Still get the issue? Or do I need to explain further? Just pointing out... the more I need to explain something as simple as this.. the more you embarrass yourself.
2
Also extra comment. All samurais have last name. HE has none. When named as samurai the last would've been added if this was the case. Also all Oda's captured samurai's had to commit seppoku. He wasn't told to do so. Meaning... HE wasn't samurai, just retainer.
2
@gerodford711 We all know why they do this. It has nothing to do being legit developers. It's all about stirring shit. Also all we know about him that he was a slave. Oda found his appearance as ammusing. He cowered in the only battle he was part and surredered. He was released and exiled because the lord saw him as a pet beast for Oda and pitied him.
2
@SusCalvin in practice he was just paige who surrendered the only time he had a chance to proce he could be bushi. He even didn't have surname, which proves that he never had samurai status.
2
Female assassins have always been common. In fact that is more realistic depiction. Assassins weren't some ultimate fighters, they were just good at subterfuge since they can use their charm to get close to their target. No where else man is more vulnerable than in his bedroom. She isn't controversial at all for that reason.
2
@Wolfenzorn same as yours
2
@arielquelme He literally called him as animal and Noda was just amused of his appearance. Basically a court clown.
2
@farisjamjoom6240 Yes he said there was no evidence of him being samurai. He was referred as paige and nothing more.
1
Turned to warrior. Name 3 Battles he took part of and war achievements he gained. He was just paige for Oda since he found his appearance as amusing. It's ridiculous to think that slave could defeat people who were raised to fight since childhood. Yasuke should've just been side character at best. Heck... he could've even been some sort of "mini boss fight" if you were to kill Oda since the claimd status of "bodyguard".
1
@snowshock8958 yeah and good guy is suppose to be his paige whom spend lot of private time with Oda. Let's be real... if he was actual assassin fighting against templar, then the game would've been over long time ago. In truth he should've been villain in the story.
1
@zzxp1 well that just proves that you're not as big brain as you like to think you are. Okay imagine this. Assassin creed is setup in African within the Zulu tribe. But instead of playing as black in the tribe fighting against templars who are colonialists... You're fighting as white man against zulu. Maybe that was too complex for you.. Let's use this example. Setup in Ghana. I doubt you even know what it's but it's ancient african empire. Instead of being native to gana you are playing as white slave (they did in fact buy slaves in Gahan). Still get the issue? Or do I need to explain further? Just pointing out... the more I need to explain something as simple as this.. the more you embarrass yourself.

@dadude2k213 he wasn't samurai, he was slave. Also they are spitting on face of japanese people who have waited to get their own representation to Assassin creed franchise. Each country has had their own race being represented before. Now it's removed for sake of getting that "woke" box ticked.
1
@dadude2k213 "woke" is used as sarcastic remark. It's insult because it's used to describe that someone thinks they are aware of something but really aren't. " Learn our culture in the states. " I don't live in states. " Yasuke was undoubtedly honored by Nobunaga" His name given by nobunaga is literally insult. XD "honored". There is even paintings of him carrying umbrella for Nobunaga. "given a residence," Yes pets generally are given house if the owner is rich. Even dogs and cats have them. "included in military campaigns" Never in field of battle. This is precisely because he was pet for him. Risking to lose his pet in fight wouldn't be good idea. Only time it was recorded of him actually partaking a battle... is after Oda died and he surrendered without fight. " I got ppl in the military saying" No clue why your friends in military matters here? Were talking about historic fact. Not agreeing with you doesn't make one racist. "and there is no way to whitewash it." but blackwashing is okay? xD
1
@dadude2k213 1.Get your terms correct. Whitewashing means that when historical character is turned into white one. I have never said anything about turning him into white. Also Ever considered that I'm japanese? 2. He wasn't ,there is no historical evidence of him being refered as samurai in the time period. Also japan didn't give the title. This proves that you don't know anything about Sengoku period of japan. It wasn't some democracy. The title can only be given by lord. In this case he haven't been given that. 3. It's not racist to point out that someone wasn't samurai but a slave. Nor is it racist to point out that he only served one year and was kicked out from japan after being called as beast. 4. There is literally video of dog playing with sword. Also his sword was just ceremonial. 5. It also has a statue of a dog.
1
@dadude2k213 Samurai's have last name. He didn't have one. Even his first name is made up in Japanese way. Last names can be created you know? Not just that but samurai's were forced to commit seppoku after Oda died. IF he was one... he would've died. Big mad? Umm what? Not mad at all, just pointing out historic facts. I'm not from USA as I had already told you before.
1
@dadude2k213 I had, look it up. Seriously instead of watching tok tok memes you should read book or two... instead of eating them.
1
@HopelessXzavier made my arguments on my own and my agenda is to have authentic game instead of one with political proganda
1
@dadude2k213 samurais by the time of Sengoku era follows a code adapted from neo Confucianism (bushido) that highly values honor, which is attached to the family's name. honor is name and merit. both are extremely important. to become a samurai you have to be born to a samurai family or be adopted into one and inherit the name and defend its honor. to be titled a samurai without such prerequisites are extremely rare. such an occasion being missing from all Yasuki's records is evidence against the argument that the title is granted. granting the title based on favoritism is against this code of honor as well. a really bad move for a leader and politician, then there is the name. Yasuke was only given a single name that means helper instead of a full first and last name that can be inherited and recognized as a samurai completes the puzzle. he is missing both merit and name. Simply put... if he didn't have last name, he wouldn't be able to build up honor nor merit. It's caste system and title isn't something as casual as you think. It didn't mean same as a warrior.
1
@zzxp1 I'm not from north America either, but you clearly don't know about Ghana. How do I know this? Because you would otherwise insists new assassin creed taking place in there instead of trying to overwrite already existing culture. " if they can create an interesting story on that setting im all on board. " bs, I've seen your types getting angry of white guy being in places they shouldn't be in. Unlike you I'm actually consistent regarding to this. Thing is... story about overglorified pet who didn't have any merit nor records of fighting. Isn't even close to possible stories you could make from already existing figures in the region. What is worse... HE is literally friends of actual g3nocidal villain. Which breaks the immersion of the setting and lore of the assassin creed. Oda would be part of the templars not against them. "im not a racist" Yes you are, and this topic has nothing to do with race. It has to do with Ubisoft doing political move to stir up some publicity at cost of japan's chance to Finally have their representation in the Assassin creed franchise. Franchise which you never played.
1
@JamesAnderson-dp1dt He guarded his body from the sun with umbrella
1
@JohnnyLynnLee He didn't trust him. He knew that some random slave without actual fighting experience can't win him. You can't be samurai without last name. The title is related to caste. You're either adopted to the family or inherit the last name in order for that to happen.
1
@LukePrice-rf7ir It's a video game... You think that's historical evidence? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
1
@LukePrice-rf7ir woke was always used as sarcastic slur. You can even see that by googling the word in urban wiki.
1
@LukePrice-rf7ir Burden of proof. You need to provide proof for positive assertion. You claimed he was samurai. You need to prove he was . However know this... IT's literally impossible to be samurai without surname. If you would become samurai you would be granted surname. He never had one. LET THAT SINK IN
1
@socialgeezer1621 according to story he was literally hired because Oda found his skin color as amusing...
1
@JohnnyLynnLee lol what a comment spam. Getting emotional? Again samurai was nobility caste and that was definately a thing back then. Whenever someone was adopted or given title of samurai, they would also change their surname. Guess what... HE NEVER HAD SURNAME. This is literally part of the process to be part of the caste. It's a sword fight. Inexperienced people wouldn't stand a chance. IT would be delusional to think that someone with less than 1-year of experience would be able to defeat someone who practiced their entire life. Try some fencing will ya. See how long it takes you to win someone who has done it over 10-years. Unlike you I actually served in military and have street fight experience. Including martial arts training. I have beaten up guys two heads taller than me with even bigger build than me.
1
@zzxp1 Dude... It's within the rules. Once you become samurai you will be given surname. He never had one, thus he never was samurai. Literally everyone else who got the samurai caste, were given new surname. If this had to do with race, then why are we asking them to let japan be represented by Japanese? I'm all for Assassin creed zulu. "Nioh developers" I had years ago. So... man this is too easy. You're just trying way too hard with your cope.
1
@gerodford711 yes but what is the reason to use least interesting character for that? There literally already were legendary ninja's at the time who could've easily be more interesting to play as.
1
@danielmalinen6337 But that would make him a villain if he is part of the jesuits
1
@gerodford711 The historic writings regarding to his existence. If you deny what I said then you have to deny his entire existence.
1
@gerodford711 and i answered, the same source where you got his existence. Keep on coping 🤡
1
@danielmalinen6337 no but from actual lore perspective oda would be with templars.
1
Yeah entire wikipedia article was created this year. Before 2024 he didn't exists in wikipedia. Look at history of the article. He is basically fabricated.
1
He was basically court clown because Oda found his look amusing. He wasn't a warrior, and anyone with even half brain could figure out that someone without training can't beat up expert swordman. No matter how big or tall they are.
1
for prediction game... They literally made movie about most famous general of Finland who humiliated soviets... as a black man. A guy who we have pictures, paintings and well known records that he was a white.
1
