  2. That is because Europe started to embrace socialism more and more. Socialism is stagnation. Which is why China and Soviet Russia struggled to compete with the west overall. Sure spacerace was a thing but with huge cost and it was basically only thing they could manage to advance. Meanwhile capitalist countries did advance in multiple places same time while even doing the space race same time.
