It was taboo to criticize soviets because they were acting as allies during WW2. Truth is... Soviet's didn't care for helping Europe against nazies, they just wanted to gain the territory that nazies had.

@scratchy996 West knew, the subject was just taboo for two reasons. 1. Russia was part of allied forces in WW2. Thus those warcrimes would be contributed to allied side as well. 2. "Western intellectuals" were far leftist thus criticizing communism/socialism was not allowed in schools.

@scratchy996 1. Yes but those crimes mostly happened during WW2 so it does make sense. 2. Not bullshit but objective fact. If you had ever gone to any college you would find out that pretty much every teacher was a communist or socialist.
