  3.  @updlate4756  do you argue against government funded basic research as well? The shuttle program ended in 2011. Get with the times. SpaceX is lowering the cost for "shooting rockets with satellites or equipment on them.", something no one has been interested in before due to the problem you describe. SpaceX is challenging the status quo where the government prints money for the space industry, so you should stop complaining and start praising SpaceX. "our government also has the nasty habit of picking winners and propping them up with loads of capital to push them far ahead of the competitive pack." Yea, and that is what have and still is standing in SpaceX's way. As I said before, if you want to complain about spending on space, complain about Boeing/ULA, not SpaceX.

This huge cash infusion continues setting SpaceX further out in front." The government is spreading the money around though, so your argument doesn't hold. So no matter how much they spread it around, you would complain about them not spreading it enough. "The government should not be picking winners." So the government should not out out any contracts for companies to bid on?
