@joseortiz9629 how would you tax him though? All he has is basically stocks in his companies that people find value in.

@Thurnishaley6969 "Especially since we havent taken care of any major issue on earth" If people lived by that in the past, you wouldn't be able to write that on the device that you do.

@joseortiz9629 why would he owe taxes though? Are you aware that he actually doesn't really have any significant amount of money? Basically all he has is a lot of Tesla stocks, that people find valuable. How would you tax him? By taking stocks from him?

@joseortiz9629 "I know we're using Elon as an example, but focusing on him personally is not really a fair way to do this ..." Does that mean you agree with me? Because it sounds like you do. "... the current system allows him to purposely avoid having cash in the bank so it won't be taxed." Does this mean you are against the concept of stocks themselves i.e. investments in other people's business, or that you think a person should be forced to sell once something reaches a certain value? "The point is there are many companies and billionaires who are ..." Then Elon shouldn't be used as an example, because I really don't see how his situation is a good example of the problem.

@joseortiz9629 you can't just say "I clearly don't agree with you", let me remind you that you are talking to a Bernie supporter here. I am just pointing out that Elon is a really bad example, and I see him used all the time and it always falls flat as he is a really bad example. You can literally choose anyone else, but he is a terrible example. If you say "I clearly don't agree with you" to me, it only shows you really have a poor grasp of the situation.

@joseortiz9629 I know, which is why it is so weird that you said "I clearly don't agree with you".

@brianhan9483 Elon is king, best billionaire on the planet, easy.
1
@Flantomas lol? Do you honestly think that? Tell me, how many billions did he inherit? :P

@brianleonard6598 tell that the Matias Ahumda, he is the ignorant one, not I. "He isn't "self-made" if he's getting money from his parents." Where do you draw the line? At one dollar? Ten?
1
@brianleonard6598 cambridge defines it as "rich and successful as a result of your own work and not because of family money", which is exactly what Elon is. With your definition, no one could ever be self made in Sweden as we have free education. You say "I don't have a specific amount where I draw the line" and "significantly more than the average person", which means you don't really know what you think, which is fine, but you should not speak with such confidence.
1
@brianleonard6598 "Why on earth are you citing a dictionary definition?" Because it is relevant when we are talking about the definition of a word/term. "Well in Sweden the average person has those advantages ..." But not in the world and we are living in a world economy. "... everyone is a product of their environment so I don't know if people are ever really self-made though." I agree with this in a philosophical sense, which is why I go with Cambridge's definition of self-made, because if we'd go by a literal definition no one would ever be self-made and thus the term would have no use. "You realize telling me because I can't define a specific point you're committing the continuum fallacy. You're basically saying because you can't specifically say when orange becomes yellow on the electromagnetic spectrum, red and yellow are the same color." I think you are trying a bit too hard here mate. I claim the very opposite, that there is such a thing as a self-made billionaire and one that isn't. My point was that, in the electromagnetic spectrum analogy, you are in the dark so you can't even see the existing difference between the yellow and orange.
1
@brianleonard6598 "No it isn't. I already stated it has no authority" And neither have you. "This is kind of a weird thing to say." Why? It is just as weird to link sel-madeness to some arbitrary average around you. "Why not just ask me what I mean by the term?" That is literally what I did, just in other words. "I'm not sure why you ever appeal to a dictionary definition." How can you be so confused about looking up a word in the dictionary when we talk about the meaning of a word... "... even by common definitions." So now you care about common definitions? "So therefore I don't think a self-made billionaire can exist ever." Then there is no value in you saying Elon isn't self-made, as that statement holds no information. You might as well say nothing at all.
