  7.  @ams914  it gives you a picture of how it is for the moment, and you can look at how the polling results are effected by what is happening. If Biden would be 50 points up, no reasonable analysis would have Trump winning the election. The less Biden is ahead, the more likely it is for Trump to win. Comparing the polling of Hillary vs. Trump to Biden vs. Trump can inform us about how Americans will vote in the upcoming election. There is a reason why campaigns conduct their own polling and act accordingly based on the results, and have focus groups etc.
