how does it stack up if you count the amount of time traveled? I think distance traveled is a more accurate way to judge safety, but when we talk about the fear of traveling, time becomes relevant.

@spybird5870 I am not offended, who says I am offended? Why you do presume I am when I am just curious about how other people rationalize their behavior and if that rationalization correlates to that of other actions. And that interest is there for any topic, not just this. If you want to make a point, you would do better by not being incorrect in the very first thing you say :P. Don't make assumptions you don't have to make :).

@JohnnyZenith ironically, it is, imo, these "... childish erratic behaviour and statements." that makes him quite likeable. He is a flawed human like the rest of us, he likes meme like the everyday person, says nice when he sees 69, enjoys a good 42 reference, not good at talking to crowds etc :D.

@NJ-wb1cz fear is not always logical :P. If a person chooses vacation destination based on travel time, time spend in, to and from the airport would indeed increase the safety. E.g. a person has a limit of 5 hours of travel time, they would travel much further by plane, which would increase the danger, but this would be lowered by the wait time.

@NJ-wb1cz it is comparable in the sense that people actually make these choices when planning their vacations. Should I drive up to the lake and camp overnight, should I drive further or take the train to the semi-local beach or should I fly to Thailand?

@NJ-wb1cz it is not really assumptions as it is such a basic concept, it is impossible for it to not be true. For you to think that travel time has no influence over people's vacation choices would be ignorant of the fact that it does. It varies from person to person, but it is there.

@NJ-wb1cz how is it pure fantasy to say that travel time is something people care about? If people have to choose between two options, either a 5 hour ride from point A to B, or a 7 hour ride (due to heavier traffic) between the same points, the vast majority will choose the 5 hour one. Surely you agree with this? If you don't think this is the core of the point I am making here, look up "the principle of charity" and follow it as you read all my comments again.

I shouldn't have included to and from though as it doesn't have to be true for relatively long car rides, and you only mentioned time in the airport. Anyway, in other words, traveling is more dangerous than not traveling.

I just told you that, so why are you not understanding this? Also, this is too far removed from traveling. I find it hilarious that you take it to this absurd place when I just wonder what the danger of the travel methods are per unit of time instead of unit of distance. Talk about freaking out for no reason :P. I mean, think about it. For you to freak out this way, one might wonder if you think there is no difference in the danger of car travel when you drive fast compared to driving slowly. I mean, hey, it is the same distance traveled, right?

Are you less likely from dying in a car crash if you are at home or out driving? This is not a rhetorical question, so answer it. Have you stopped to reflect upon your behavior here? I agree with you when you say that sitting at the airport is less dangerous than flying, and you freak out like it is the most stupid thing you have ever heard. I am very fascinated by this behavior, what is it that makes it impossible for you to have a rational discussion about this?
