I have to say it again. This video was ridiculously good. Praying to the yt-algorithm gods for it to gain more traction :).

4:42 absolutely love the production quality of this video and the technical details accuracy, but it was kind of cute how intentionally or not the video sort of insinuated that the rocket went the wrong direction to the Indian ocean :).

@neobogard some people prefer risking life than not living at all.
7
you are way, way exaggerating the issue.
6
and this is combusted methane, so even less bad :).
4
@jptrainor it feels like one of those things chatgpt should be good at. My understanding is that it is less than expected, but I would not bet my life that it is that low. I would call 37 home-years bs but I would not instinctively object to 3750. Now I'm kind of curious what result a manual calculation would give us :).
4
what? Of course this should happen. Pushing technology to the limits is what progresses society further.
4
@usveteran9893 why go to a baseball game when you can watch it on tv?
4
tbh I am not so sure about controlled, it seems like they had an issue with attitude control. That might also be why they didn't do the starship upper stage raptor relight in space. Still a great test, but it would have been phenomenal with raptor relight and a proper re-entry test.
2
@fatroberto3012 I must have missed the barbecue maneuver talk, are you sure that is about Starship? I would not be surprised if that could be something about the Dragon capsule, because that do ring a bell and it seems very foreign to me regarding Starship.
2
yes, better to be even richer and go to space :).
2
the guest was very positive.
2
@cbdude my comment was about the direction, not the destination. Don't throw around comments about clapping seals when you are the one making a fool out of yourself. We are past pi day, but it is time for you to eat humble pie.
2
@emirhanyagcioglu6980 I was quite surprised with how wobbly super heavy was when it got close to the ground.
2
@zeroceiling hm, I'm not in anguish :P.
2
@alanm6o9 Is there another vessel like it? Why not do what works? If you only do things that for sure work, you will not progress. I am not advocating for doing things unsafe, I am advocating for doing things compared to not doing them.
2
@karatsurba4791 yeah people are too used to negative reporting that they can't fathom this lovely lady guest being super pumped about the test :).
2
@BarrGC I would say that the "definition" of space in this context would be something related to "micro-G" as in the introduced challenge of relighting the engines that comes of that compared to e.g. booster sep.
2
@BarrGC oh yeah, surviving re-entry has been that one main daunting task ever since the conception! I really hope we get a goo attempt at it next time :).
2
@justanobody0 every test is more successful than the last one. Eventually you will have a functional rocket and a great one if those failures came from pushing the envelop really hard, which is what they are doing.
2
indeed, but you do get into the problem of, what is a new rocket? Like, falcon 9 that flies today is clearly not the same as the inaugural Falcon 9, but Vostok and Soyuz counts as different rockets?
1
people are overly critical, this was perfectly fine reporting in terms of tone.
1
They didn't fully load it for ift-3 because of that lack of payload. They did for ift-2 though, but that resulted in the we-have-too-much-propellant-so-we-need-to-dump-it-problem. This is quite obvious if you compare the frost on the outside on ift-2 and ift-3. Your attitude does not match your knowledge.
1
@cbdude was that eating noise? XD
1
@justanobody0 like the shuttle? You just don't want to do that, you want to do that cheaply.
1
@iamthepapi6251 "You need to address was wrong with your life that makes you so angry and want to argue about everything." You are projecting. "Enjoy the rest of your life arguing with people for no reason at all." And again.
1
@iamthepapi6251 hurl your insults at me if it makes you feel better. I can take it and I am sure you need it :).
1
if you are annoyed with the star in starship, I can't wait to hear your rant about starliner :P.
1
@PaendaTube that is besides the point
1
how so?
1
depends on how you define it. Yeeting a person to Mars is not impossibly difficult, it just requires massive effort and determination.
1
@yellowman8230 seeing Titanic in person is better as well :).
1
too low energy density.
