  1. The point isn’t just to avoid getting acquired, but to avoid getting acquired by someone who’s going to turn everything upside-down. The “corporate raiders” of the 1980s were famous for this: they’d buy a company, break it up, and sell the parts for a profit. If a sale is inevitable, hopefully you can sell to someone who’ll at least let the company live.
