My dad had a John Bull rubber stamp kit (all the letters) which we played with as kids pre-computer. I think it helped prime me for a bunch of stuff which I later got into.

@misterspock3756 There has definitely been some speculation that leather was involved. for some of the theories so that's definitely not impossible. I have to say, I haven't found any of the theories thus far convincing. They all have stuff going for them to a greater or lesser degree but they typically fail to make use of all the dodec's features or can be achieved in a much easier way. I do think the 'religious purposes' is a cop-out though.

@nicomal Parallel evolution. And although Lucas wanted things to be alien, a bunch of stuff 'slipped through'. But it's useful to think of it as a 're-interpretation' anyway. Else why do they all speak English?

@ethanfleisherrenunderground When I was a kid I had a paper round. If I was feeling flush, I'd sometimes stop a milkman on his rounds and buy a milkshake (flavored milk to Americans before you start imagining odd things).
