If the drive wheels are going up the ramp, it's less of an issue. If the ramps aren't on drive wheels, the car is pushing them more, even when on the ramp.

@ImpendingJoker My 2000 Jetta does. Nearly had a heart attack when I went to pick it up from the dealer and they'd left it in gear parked 2 inches away from the car in front.

Yes. I was concerned about UV resistance too. It's very much an issue here where it's sunny so much. Even inside my shed, the light through the window has led to me going to pick up plastic things and just getting a handful of plastic debris.

@Its_Captain_Jack_Sparrow I think it was more about spending 2k for a youtube video. Though he probably makes it back.

@matthewmiller6068 I assume jackjohnsons was just using "axle stands" as a generic for jack stands and there's plenty of places to apply those. I always use ramps when I can though. Unfortunately, a lot of the reasons for getting a car in the air end up requiring removing a wheel or two.

@sumduma55 Cinder blocks are a lot more fragile than people think.

@trvman1 In the house my parents lived in before I was born, my dad dug an inspection pit in the garage. Apparently it rained and it filled up with water.

I did once use a welder to start a car where one of the cells on the battery was dead. The welder supplied about 6V but plenty of current which was enough to get the starter turning.

@ihim7380 If you have the receipt (and they store all that electronically too), they should definitely refund what you paid. If you don't, that's a bit trickier. They should replace them with something equivalent or better if you're going for a replacement though.

It would have been interesting to measure the thickness of the steel on the metal ramps. I have a set that came with a set of car stuff from walmart marked down to $15 that have served me well for more than 2 decades.

The 'moving between a 50 degree angle' thing seems like a weak test to me. The ratchet will be an integer division of 360 degrees. That would be the better measurement. Otherwise, a ratchet with 30 degrees and one with 45 degrees (for example) would look the same as they would both move one click within your 50 degrees. In fact a 45 degree ratchet would do it in 8 which would rate better by your standard but would actually be pretty shitty.

@brandonerrorcontentmissing4012 You want to let some of the pressure off so the car settles on the stands anyway.

The irony is, I do use my death trap as a car ramp on occasion.
