Yes. Though the data gets stale after a while. My Garmin handheld GPSs will ask me to confirm if they haven't been used in a while so they can go looking for the sats where they are rather than where it thinks they should be.

The immediate and obvious question is "what does Google get from this?". When a service is free, you're the product, not the customer.

Radio set alarm clocks are great. You don't have to do math first thing when you wake up.

There is something similar in the US. It's called WWVB. It has its limitations though.

"I don't have to power off my server". Famous last words for many, I feel.

I believe France wanted it through Paris too so there was definitely some wrangling. The funny thing is, the line for UTC isn't even through where it's marked at Greenwich these days. Tom Scott and Stand up Maths have good videos about it.

@dang6206 Good luck. It would be nice if some kind of distributed database could be used though I'm not sure if that could be protected against gaming and if privacy could be assured. TOR and Freenet and possibly bittorrent might be worth looking at.

I got an IT cert in a week cause it was mostly stuff I knew anyway and I bought a book to round things out. Totally worthless and long since expired. Killed some time I didn't have anything better to do with though. (this is not a boast about me, many people know this stuff too. More just about the value of certs).

@user-he4ef9br7z Not sure directly but many of the IT people in my last position didn't even have degrees. Experience is the primary factor from what I can tell. Networking (the people kind) the next. Some places will require certs and degrees though and there are definitely some intrinsic benefits, especially to the latter but definitely overrated for the right kind of person. A good business mentor (or partner) would have done me a lot better than my degree.
