I like that he mentions fans being picky about the tracks but doesn't condemn them for it but tries to raise his standards. He seems to recognize that this is people being passionate about the things they love.

I agree. I have a 2 yo and would like to know some tunes to throw at him. Being a metalhead, I don't have a good familiarity with classical or jazz.

Definitely one of those albums where everything came together. It was the first CD I ever bought (it was cassettes previous to that) so I listened to it a lot.

"It makes my drink on the table ripple in an interesting way"
4
Yep. There was a time when England and Spain (and France) were taking over the world and getting into the occasional scrap while doing so.
3
Someone has to drive the van.

@matthewatwood8641 I get the feeling DonHaka would blame capitalism if he dropped his ice-cream.
3
Metallica not exactly bastions of adopting new music paradigms though.
3
It's true. Even today, thunderbolts and lightning are still very, very frightening.
2
Killer still holds up too.
2
Basically this.
2
Only one or two I didn't recognize and I'm in my 50s.
2
@adamrad2220 Could he actually play the sax? There's a plague of panhandlers at the moment who will "play trombone" along to a backing track. The trick is that the trombone sound is also on the track and the 'player' us just puffing their lips out and moving the slide.
2
Street Mild O' Shine.
2
Except Nickelback.
2
Disposable stars have to accept shitty contracts.
2
I blame The Wiggles for starting all this.
1
I went to see a band and they claimed the White Stripes had basically stolen this song from them. They then played a song that sounded somewhat similar. Can't remember the name of the band though.
1
Buggles may have been a one hit wonder but Trevor Horn certainly was not.
1
The bit that comes in at 3:44 reminds me heavily of the beginning of Oingo Boingo's "Insanity".
1
I still rate the 80s higher but the 90s definitely had some bangers and was a key time in my life a lot of these songs were the background to. Also just to make a quick call-out to Todd in the Shadow's channel where he covers a lot of one-hit-wonders in a decent amount of depth.
1
@shorty6136 Some. But that was way before Spotify so very diminished.
1
@judithrivera3385 I can't remember last time I heard a Hendrix song out loud.
1
If you like one hit wonders, I'd suggest checking out Tod in the Shadows. Not just 80s.
1
It's just a repetitive sample of a Chili Peppers song. This is "top" one-hit wonders.
1
Ask them what they think "in tune" means. It sounds like it's probably totally different to what it actually is. (Though your son should surely know)
1
Your Jane's Addiction video put them on my regular playlist. They were around when I was in my 20s but I didn't pay them much attention.
1
Saw the thumbnail and thought it was going to be top 10 wookie songs.
1
Rick not a fan of the WAP.
1
Rick, have you given any attention to what Danny Elfman has been putting out the last few months?
1
BR is one of those songs where when you get to the end, you feel like you've listened to a song and not just heard it.
1
Definitely not my favorite song. I think it gets too much airplay and goes on too long. But he's a great player and interesting to hear Rick's commentary about it.
1
Start looking to alt-tech.
1
Paralyzer and Take me Out sound like they share some DNA.
1
Do you upload anywhere else?
1
@inphanta Definitely. It was something that was just kinda around at the time and it's hardly surprising that two bands would do a similar thing at the same time. Plus bands take influences from each other all the time. Plus Patton does all sorts of styles anyway.
1
Bears more than a passing similarity to Louis Rossmann's story.
1
Oh, "Panama". I was hearing "Animal". Not a big VH fan tho.
1
David Gilmour sometimes plays in a pub my mate goes to (The Neptune in Brighton - he recently posted a short video of him playing with his daughter). I don't know if I could get him to pass on a message though.
1
Also another riff I've heard of being banned from guitar shops.
1
@gr637 Misunderstood for sure.
1
I'm sure he could have and it sounds like he tried but hit some roadblocks and his skillset let him become successful elsewhere. Maybe he can be convinced to create an original track or three.
1
That doesn't logically follow.
1
I was never a big fan of the song the first time around and still not now but it's interesting to hear it on the radio again. The 80s definitely had something going on. In many ways, we were spoiled for choice.
1
I would probably have included Cage the Elephant "Ain't no rest for the wicked" on mine but a solid list nonetheless.
1
@cvidal2702 Lars just wanted his slice of the pie.
1
We're coming into a time when there are only two musical genres. 80s and 90s.
1
@michaellee4276 Child-sized.
1
This hotdog contains animal byproducts.
1
Not surprising. Newer always beats quality. This has been apparent from the IMDB movie ratings for a long time. Quality endures though.
1
The top 10 had always been mostly full of junk. This is something my parents told me 30+ years ago and it's still true today. Add in survivor bias and that the music we hear in our formative years takes on special significance and here we are. Welcome to getting older, ladies and gents. Now, bring on the "every one is golden" top 10 lists to refute me. I'd actually love to read them (I know there will be a few)..
1
In case anyone isn't aware, Bono stopped looking and just bought a new one.
1
@IggyBing B52s had other hits and Adam and the ants had several before Goody 2 Shoes.
1
@slees1847 It still gets a reasonable amount of airplay in the US.
1
@skintslots They were on the GTA Vice City soundtrack.
1
@nunnayabiz7911 Pet Shop Boys had several hits.
1
@benjohnson1670 Wasn't Pink Sunshine a bigger hit?
1
@shack8110 Don't forget "China in your Hands" tho.
1
@skintslots I'm no spring chicken myself and Vice City is 20 years old.
1
This song is a time machine back to my 20s.
1
@joeshmoe7967 Yep. She also has tons of connections throughout the music industry. She's definitely not untalented and easy on the eye but there's been a lot of string pulling to get her where she is.
1
Neither of these people are mental giants.
1
@erictuxen His son has perfect pitch though.
1
@theend9494 Apparently a lot of songs are actually sped up to make them sound more lively.
