With the steering wheel one, you just know someone was driving around with vice-grips.

@applefanXXX It's kinda like the tax discs used to be only you stick them on the plate. There's not really any need for them anymore in this online world.

@teamscarletdevil6915 Bolts work best when operated from all six sides. Vice grips and adjustable wrenches should not be your first choice if possible (though they do have their uses).

There was the story of a car that had the door on the front and no reverse so people would drive up to walls and have great difficulty getting out.

I didn't like the PT Cruiser but I did appreciate that they were trying something different.

It might be cool if it was sold as a kit. Buy the body and put your own engine etc in it.

Cooling the metal is legit but no way it got cold enough from being sprayed like that if it was a proper fit. Dip it in liquid nitrogen and maybe we're talking.

You missed a third reason: Resale value. Americans are obsessed with resale value. That's why most cars you see are boring colors like white, grey (I refuse to call it silver) or black. People are buying their cars for the next owner, not for themselves. I think this might be tied up with people buying their cars with financing.

@jamie49868 I drive a green VW. But it's from 2000. I looked at VWs available colors a while back and it made me sad. It's also a manual :)

The ratcheting stands aren't going anywhere. It's hard to get them to drop even when you want them to unless the car is completely clear of them (faulty designs notwithstanding). With that said, you should definitely go with what you're comfortable with.

A razor blade will get them off pretty good too.

Tennessee? Citation needed.

The Beetle actually wasn't all that great. Same base as the Jetta but the shape meant no headroom in the back seats, a difficult to navigate engine bay and reduced luggage space. That's a lot to sacrifice for an aesthetic.

@Cookiebreedchannel Might have been useful for re-crimping the end of my expanding hose. Crimp tools are expensive. But I already found repair kits that are working fine.

If I have the wheel off, I'll often put it under the sill too.
1
@rogermccaslin5963 Yeah, seems more likely that they decided it wasn't worth the money it would cost to resolve the issue given their low sales.

Does that handbrake need adjusting though?

There's some quite detailed information on alignment procedures in the UK's MOT inspection manual https://irp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/89718dd7/files/uploaded/mot-inspection-manual-classes-3-4-5-7-vehicles.pdf

You should hook the air jack up to the spark-plug tire inflater you tried out the other month.

There are low-profile trolley jacks. I had to get one for the daughter's Audi.

Kinda underlines the often ridiculous state of regulations. Add a wheel so it's basically functionally identical and marginally safer and what could be a good idea becomes basically untenable. Though the truth is that the lighter regulations for a motorcycle were not meant to allow for a vehicle like this.

Gotta wonder why they didn't put a cam-lock on these. They still wouldn't be very good but it would at least counter their greatest weakness.
1
@flippy5118 The kit does not come with a compressor. You might be talking about the part that gives the powder a charge.
1
@mpr746 In school we powder-coated a scriber handle. You'd get the handle really hot then dip it into a vibrating can that made the powder into a kind-of mist.

I'm sure a hundred people have pointed it out already but passing is different to overtaking. Still not a good law though. Probably from when some politician deep in thought driving ten under was startled out of their reverie by someone overtaking.

Automatics may be able to change fast but they can't change early. Not yet anyway. Until they can anticipate your needs, I have no time for them. Paddle shifters are a reasonable compromise and the J-shifter on my XK8 was reasonable but nowhere close to proper stick.
