It's the Chewbacca defense.

@MeRiaNevaMynd It goes both ways, sadly. Lots of awful tenants but the good ones are stars.
12
@sy73326 Some did.

Sounds like they weren't trying to get evidence of a crime from the cameras but to conceal it.

I've been to a couple of timeshare things (1000 trails and Hilton) and the pressure is quite high. We went in with no intention to buy and held out but the persuasion effort is through the roof. I recommend not doing it. Better to pay for yourself. Even the time you have to do the presentation is not worth what you save. And if you're not completely resolute, you could find yourself with a millstone around your neck.

@kimlground206 When I lived in student digs, the landlord had a pay meter on each of our rooms with the communal areas just as part of the rent. It was a bit annoying but kept things simple for the landlord and the meters were not excessively greedy.

@windywednesday4166 Yes. I have a policy I never make commitments to big decisions the same day. It's saved me a lot of grief.

@since1876 Worth doing for the experience if you don't get signed up. They know most people go in thinking they won't sign up but they hook enough anyway. Be sure you know yourself really, really well. Personally I won't do another one because the presentation is fairly unpleasant and a waste of my time.

@fluffytheostrich3878 To be fair, "Don't touch shit you're not supposed to" should be part of the minimal level of training for cleaning staff.
7
@hughacosta1090 Surveyor would be the minimum for anything like this. Even if you have the right lot, one mistake and you've built in the wrong place (too close to a boundary, over a right-of-way etc) and you're in big trouble anyway.
5
@terrylegrosbisson1177 She may not want the jungle. But they should restore it to her satisfaction.
5
@Crosshair84 The movie was actually about Cameron.
4
@electrostatic1 Everyone employed by the IFJ gets a paycheck. If a lawyer can afford to and wants to work pro-bono, good on them but nobody should be expected to work for free.
4
Having them release the cad files would be a good move too. If they don't think they'd be profitable, there's no reason not to.
4
@davidgoodnow269 I was a bit suspicious about their dehydrated gas though.
3
@JamesParus Bingo. We like to do a lot of different things and being tied to anything would be restrictive and a waste of money.
3
Yes. Which means some poor dude working in a factory ends up subsidizing some millionaire's beach-front property.
3
This is an old story. The people talking about standard cleaning sockets and such, there was a time when that wasn't a thing. Best practices have evolved over several decades.
3
@OneWildTurkey All in a day's work for a surveyor.
3
@my3dviews Agreed. But as described in this video, it was a bit ambiguous.
2
@somethingsomething404 Yes. It wasn't too bad though. Lights and a heater when it was too cold don't burn much.
2
@addhoardingprocrastinator It's not about being naive so much. Cognitive ability declines as you age (for some more or less than others, of course). Many of the people suffering from this are just flat-out vulnerable.
2
They actually have a slider and you can see the same view as it changes over time. (It's not a smooth slider).
2
@cosmicinsane516 My understanding with the linear compressors is that there is a thin one-way valve that develops cracks over time (I think there's a teardown on youtube). Mine suffered gradual degradation and even seemed to recover for a bit but eventually was keeping food at dangerous temperatures. It's a wonder we didn't get sick.
2
I have one of those Kenmore/LG fridges. We decided to splurge on the features that time so very pissed off that all of that was a waste because of a shitty compressor. We've had people out twice but in the end, you just get sick of all the on-hold, being at home stuff. We bought a zero-feature fridge to replace it in the end. We also have a fridge/freezer in our laundry room that's been running non-stop for 1/4 century now (our washer/dryer is nearly as old). Someone needs to take these companies to task.
1
If that's the case though, the ideal thing would be to contact the owners to correct the issue (or just deny any claim when it's made if you're evil) so you can keep receiving those premiums. This is clearly being used as an excuse to get out of contracts that the insurance companies no longer want to cover.
1
The problem with these people is that you or I might be wise to them but there are plenty of people out there, particularly older people who are susceptible to these scams. The probably only need to get a bit1 1 time out of a 100 to make it worthwhile.
1
This kinda lets you know the level of facial recognition and tracking they have going on. I would imagine that she could argue that if they had that and didn't kick her out, that's an implicit revocation of any ban.
1
@KISSMYACE3203 Yes and there's the chance that it could be some big damage they end up liable for in the future. On the other hand, it would have to be pretty severe to be more than a drop in the bucket for government budgets.
1
The simple truth is that the ins cos want out of these contracts. These points are valid but are just a pretext for cancellation.
1
6:10 That's actually a key element of the book that was not covered in the movie. There's actually a double twist. Well worth the read.
1
This almost feels to me that the neighbors settled at a high price so they could use it as a base to go after someone else. I don't really have any evidence to support it though.
1
This is so sleazy the judge should award her whatever she thinks she deserves.
1
@my3dviews Thanks. This was the question I had. It was only when he started trying to reduce his usage that he noticed so this seemed likely (though it would still allow that he was paying both). Under those conditions, he could actually have been underpaying.
1
@wdousley and/or interest rates will shoot up as the lenders self-insure their potential loss. People seem to think there's a free lunch to be had here.
1
Remember, "the cloud" is just a fancy way of saying "somebody elses computer"
1
Cancelling the policy isn't the best way to respond to that though. You could suspend the policy until the issue is remedied. This is clearly just a pretext to cancel contracts they no longer want to cover.
1
Was he paying both bills or just his neighbors and (presumably) vice versa? If it was just vice versa, likely, a lot of the difference would just average out unless the neighbor had a grow room or was crypto-mining.

365x2x100=73000

The point is that the way the law is written, it (allegedly) does not overturn existing rules. They could have easily written it to do so if they wished (though that may have been subject to challenges). Personally, I'd never buy a house in an HOA and they raise all sorts of legal issues IMO.
1
There's no point stealing an election if you're not going to do stuff with it.
1
Besides the legal thing, there's usually some kind of oversight on public utilities which might be able to bring some pressure to bear.
1
Though with that said, I did just catch someone in their early 40s falling for the "You have won a prize" Youtube scams a few months ago.
1
@Khalifrio It may have been thought of and they did it deliberately. Great way to get twice the land for the same price if you have the connections.
1
@andrewdreasler428 Interesting. It was crazy that they parceled up the land without considering access though. That was always going to cause problems.
1
@andrewdreasler428 True that too. I just sometimes think that Hanlon's razor is often a bit too convenient.
1
This should come under being able to face your accuser. Get the dog on the stand and cross-examine it.
1
@escapedfromnewyork Insurance companies are there to make a profit. If the risks are too high for the premiums, they're not going to want to continue coverage. I wonder if there are restrictions on how much they can increase premiums (which would be the more logical step). Maybe California has just become too crazy to make actuarial predictions. (Edit: I see from other comments that there are restrictions on increasing premiums. This was entirely predictable).
1
@tolson57 I mean, she's not cause it's not my state. What are you getting at?

Bluey lied to me.
