@RaptorJesus They had a child. It's become fashionable to say you shouldn't stay together for the children but I think that's too glib and, in this case, arguably helped contribute to the devastating things that happened to their son and this whole situation that could have ended a lot darker. If it is amicable then even more the case because the situation is not harming the kids. Taking care of your kids is the most important thing most human beings will ever do.

@RaptorJesus You're really rolling the dice on new partners being good people and the stories of the downsides and risks are rife (we're posting in the comments of one such story). I'm not saying it's for every case but I think we've begun to lean into the arena of people justifying their own selfish actions over the needs of the children and the pendulum needs to swing back.

@RaptorJesus "Shouldn't matter"? What does should or shouldn't have to do with it? It *does*. All those other people who are a risk? They'll be there whether the parents are together or not. So it makes it more with more unsupervised access and less inherent interest in the wellbeing of children who are not their own. You live how you want to but I'm going to push back on the idea that broken homes should be presumed to have no negative effects on what should be the most important things in your life. People give up too easy these days and this glib little saying deserves re-examination.
