I think the battery pack has a steel casing. The fiberglass may be more against protecting against water and dirt. Though you're correct, the clearance means it's going to get rough pretty quickly.

There's only so much protection you can do. I ran over a piece of metal thrown up by a truck in a minivan and it took out the coolant lines, the AC lines and the gas tank. It was a fairly small and thin piece of metal. With that said, this is definitely an area of concern for EVs.

@brettgracey9682 There's a reason they're called stealerships. Clips for my car were $3/piece but I bought a bag of 50 for $10.

@Psi-Storm Battery pack is more akin to the fuel tank than the engine. I think the mistake is having one big battery pack rather than several smaller ones. Sounds like VW has the right idea.
