College: We can sell you a degree for 100,000 Government: We'll throw in 30,000 College: We can sell you a degree for 130,000

The real money to be made in New York is draining the pockets of people actually doing worthwhile work.

A shitty thing is they didn't even pop up a message saying "Can not stream in 4K on this device". They just left you to happily keep going. Presumably there are people who won't notice and just keep paying for something they're not getting.

Saying "memory corrupt" when it's actually a totally deliberate outcome is a sure sign you know you're dealing with bullshitters. When first we practice to deceive...

Broken window theory applied to trash. Once one person throws down some trash, everyone else thinks they have permission to add to it. Having that be the default for legit trash probably doesn't help. They should probably come up with front-of-store dumpsters that would work for that environment (You say there is no space but there is space for trash so that is where the dumpsters would go).

@mikebalentine Just like with any "great offer if you sign up right now", if it's such a good deal, it will still be available tomorrow.

"Screw your freedom" - former governor of California

It happened to 1984 too. Amazon put out an unlicensed version of the book and then removed it from peoples' devices.

“But the plans were on display…” “On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them.” “That’s the display department.” “With a flashlight.” “Ah, well, the lights had probably gone.” “So had the stairs.” “But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?” “Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”

Frying pan -> fire.

Walmart is currently advertising Walmart Plus with "free delivery". The "free delivery" is done by gig drivers who you are expected to tip. I hate this tipping thing. Pay people properly and charge accordingly.

Any company that feels the need to make their motto "Don't be evil" is sus in the first place.
77
Some people won't like this suggestion but a few years ago I had a company Dell Latitude. It had the track-point and seemed fairly solid if uninspiring. Dell seems to treat their business customers right.
71
I think you need to tell these people up-front that you're not a tech company with IPO money burning a hole in your pocket.
70
I can recommend refillable cartridges if you can get em. Worth researching before you buy a printer. Mine report to the printer like the official ones but will "reset" if removed from the printer when indicating empty.
62
I really think there's some momentum building against this. Tipping culture is all kinds of broken and it's only getting worse.

Yep. Tried selling a property in Florida recently and the first, really quick offer is a builder who starts talking about septic tank lines being over property lines and it'll be expensive to sort out and they made a low offer and the realtor backed them up. My wife confirmed this was bullshit. Needless to say, we didn't take the offer and fired the realtor (who we believe was in cahoots with the builder). Got another realtor and we're selling for pretty much what we were expecting. It's important to remember that realtors make their money from selling houses and are typically more interested in volume than making sure you get the tip-top price (and may have other incentives also).

@mosesbuddhajesus3362 As stated. There was a "children at play" sign but no school zone.

Everyone should be republishing their content on the new alternative sites and encouraging people to use them. Also center your funding around subscriptions and donations (and possibly merch and sponsors though sponsors are risky too).
40
Amazon is up to a ton of shady shit recently. Might be a good time to short.

"I'm the Boardman!"

It's not a good answer but for the ones you have, I'd pop them open and see if there's a jumper or resolder that converts between the voltages. Often it's just where a tap is taken off the transformer. Surprised they're not dual voltage these days to be honest.
36
Yes. I'm planning on talking with my wife about this later today. Prime has become basically worthless for deliveries and now this?
33
When I have a failure at work, when I explain myself, I say that it's not an excuse, it's a reason. Then we can look at the causes of the failure and address them going forward. It's a much more productive way to handle things. If the problem is external or a process issue, that can be changed. If the problem is in my approach (and, hey, we don't always get it right first time), I can say how I will adjust that going forward. If the problem really is me, they can always let me go. That last hasn't happened so far.
32
Not all of America is like that. Virtually none of it, in fact.

I think Signal is going to have more to worry about dealing with the fallout of removing SMS functionality from their software. But that's just my opinion.
31
Middle-grounder here. It's amazing to have watched how this has devolved into a partisan issue. Even trying to suggest an evidence and data based approach, people will attack you.

@GreatSageSunWukong Louise Rosswomann

Definitely seems like an over-reaction. I've been more shocked about what Louis has said about Paul Daniels' software to be honest. This was very mild to spit your pacifier out over. He didn't even throw out a diss. Heck, he's been sending you customers and you called him a Jackhole.
30
They're from New York where they have rats the size of a small horse and cockroaches the size of a small rat.

@rossmanngroup It's not really a feature, just a function of how the car works. When you take your foot off the accelerator (in gear), the wheels drive the engine. The engine is still sucking in and compressing air so it pushes back against the wheels. In a manual car (and kind-of in some automatics), you can select a lower gear so the engine pushes back harder against the wheels. I can come to a near stop just doing that. Some people worry about wear but in truth, if done right, it's extremely slight. Being in the lower gear also has the advantage that you're ready to accelerate again.

To be 'fair' to AOC, she went from a low-skill job to a low-skill job. She should probably try actually getting some experience of what it means to do a high skill job before commenting.
28
Happens all the time already. I've had multiple perfectly functional items be obsoleted by "End of life" bullshit. The Oculus (facebook) CV1 headset has a cable that's essentially a wear part that they stopped making a couple of years ago. I bought an electric chainsaw (Worx) a couple of years ago and a gear stripped out. "Discontinued". Modern manufacturing processes mean that it's trivial to design new parts that are very slightly incompatible with the old rather than have any kind of continuity and lineage. Meanwhile my 20 year old washer/dryer still works fine with the occasional repair for which parts are still available.
26
A lot of rural areas are caught up in the opioid epidemic too so it's not impossible a lot of missing people just ODed.
26
Put some trackers in them. They are probably being stolen but at the least, dumped.
26
It's quite possible that masking emboldens criminals since it adds a sense of anonymity just like being on the internet.
25
Word up ladies, I hear Rossman love interests get a 10% discount on motherboard repairs and a free screen protector.
24
Too many people just sign whatever these days (we've been conditioned to it) so they get confused when someone refuses.
22
@zsoltlajtos6527 Many European cities are even older than NY. Not having good records is a problem but it isn't insurmountable, especially with modern technology.
21
I visited NYC a couple of times up to 2010. I was thinking it might be nice to go back again but the last several years have totally changed my mind.
21
The government demands less energy use, the manufacturers downgrade the components to provide it then the fridge dies early and any energy saved is lost multiple times over in making a new fridge. A truly energy efficient design would be modular so the whole mechanical cooling part could be swapped out as a unit.
21
I believe that info is in the credit check which can involve a whole lot more than just a number. You might want to check cards haven't been opened in your name (though that's not the only reason this could happen)
21
He mentioned this in a video and I went looking over recent videos to that one and never found it. I'm not sure it was ever on the public channel.
20
Not to defend what he did but it wasn't a school zone.
20
Probably not in NYC.
19
@ohger1 No water pumps or hoses? How does the battery cooling work then?
19
Louis, get a Latitude, an Elitebook and your Thinkpad and do a comparison review. Add another string to your bow.
19
Same for the US at the federal level. Only the US and Eritrea have a draconian tax law that attaches you and follows you wherever you go as long as you're an American citizen (or Eritrean).

@EddieGooch If the real thing don't do the trick.
