  2. It might also turn out that there are standard attachment dimensions that would make it easy to swap in a better camera. Possibly not but I would think it was worth a look.

  3. Cost. It depends what the cameras are typically used for. Or what the companies believed they were used for. In this case though, it's probably more like they are just not keeping up with the times.
