  1. +Manolis Gledsodakis, you can also throw it in the microwave for a few seconds to warm it up. Don't do this for too long though as you may overcharge the battery.

  2. It's just a guess but it's possible that this line is at 5V at all times (or at least when it's plugged in), even when the rest of the computer is off. This would make it more susceptible to corrosion, especially with the computer not being on meaning it would be cold and condensation would hang around.
