  1. It's pretty straightforward. If the drive is properly encrypted, it can't be accessed with the correct key. So you should be able to replace the chip which holds the key with a new chip and the drive would be effectively blank. That's in theory anyway. Apple would no doubt make this difficult/impossible. (The bigger point it, if they are using good encryption, the drive doesn't need to be overwritten).
