A shitty thing is they didn't even pop up a message saying "Can not stream in 4K on this device". They just left you to happily keep going. Presumably there are people who won't notice and just keep paying for something they're not getting.

@ZeranZeran It's a lot different now. I speak as someone who was around to craft X mode lines. Last few installs on random hardware have been seamless.

@ZeranZeran LOL. No. I have a Linux desktop I use for a few things that's exclusively Linux and I put Steam on it so my son could play Terraria and then Portal and Portal 2 and Don't Starve Together. I came up yesterday and he had installed a few more games on his own. He's five. There are some games that don't work (I hear) but it's looking a lot better than it was. He also uses it for Minecraft but that's outside of Steam.

@rossmanngroup Note also that they didn't even tell you you were watching a downgraded stream. How many people continue to pay for 4k even when they're not using it?

@ThePopo543 A crisp 480p is often perfectly adequate.

@valikmora Well, Java isn't really native as such but point noted. You may not even need Wine if you're using Steam. I was able to get Algadoo working by copying the directory from a Windows install and adding it as an external game under Steam using Proton.

@valikmora Java code isn't really native though though the JRE is native. True with the proton but point is, if you install steam for gaming, you don't need to worry about wine for other software, you can run it from within steam (it's not just for steam games).

I was doing the same for Corel Draw 4 but it stopped working on Windows 7, unfortunately. I ended up using Inkscape after that.

@grants7390 Reddit has a coterie of deranged people who will pursue you across subs if you say a word wrong.

@catprog Adobe actually put all their stuff out there for download when they changed their license a while back (though you were still supposed to have a license). I don't think you can still get it but I'm sure it's floating around somewhere. It was CS6 in 2017

Didn't adobe put out a bunch of DRM-free copies of their software when they were discontinuing their online authentication (CS6 in 2018, I believe)?
