It's always been a broken business model to me. The people using their service for hosting don't pay for it. The advertisers are the source of money (what isn't coming from 'Alphabet' or VCs) and the connection to anything is all wrong. This leads to all kinds of wrong incentives. The correct model is for the viewers to pay for the content (with various ways to manage that, potentially including free tiers) and for that to pay for the bandwidth and hosting. Whenever I say this, people complain but it's usually those who want something for nothing. Some services out there appear to be going that way (locals for instance, though I think there are still issues with their model) and I think that kind of setup will ultimately prove the most durable.
