The government demands less energy use, the manufacturers downgrade the components to provide it then the fridge dies early and any energy saved is lost multiple times over in making a new fridge. A truly energy efficient design would be modular so the whole mechanical cooling part could be swapped out as a unit.

  3. They may want you to pay a "certified technician" or something. A lot of these higher-end brands customers like they don't own the item and, to be fair, for some of the customers, they like it that way.
