  3. My understanding is that the insurance companies are basically protecting themselves from wide-scale events that could cost them excessively. It's one thing to pay out when someone drives their car into the front of the store, totally another when hundreds or thousands of stores are affected at the same time like a flood or this virus. Now, that doesn't make it not slimey and definitely such things should be made clear up-front and yes, insurance companies do try and back their way out of too many valid claims but it's worth considering why those exceptions are there. If you or I were to start an insurance company, we'd probably find it necessary to have the same exceptions too because you can't really promise something you're not going to be able to fulfill.
