  1. I was surprised when I plugged my USB-C Chromebook into a 5V limited charger, it actually still charged. Obviously, it wasn't enough power to keep it going if it was being used but that's infinitely better than it just rejecting it outright.

  3.  @Arcidi225  It could be better. Given that you have to put your device so close to the charger, you almost might as well plug it in anyway. Plus, half the time, I've unplugged the charging pad to use the cable for something else so I have to plug in my wireless charger before I can use it anyway.

  5. Laptops have been pushing that way anyway and are pretty available. Having it as a standard will be nice though.

  7. It was a nightmare with everyone having proprietary names and nobody describing what was going on. Some were even QC or PD under the hood.

  8.  @szaszm_  I think the laptop could request 19V and refuse to charge if it didn't get it (unless these regs say otherwise) though with that said, my Chromebook would charge with a 5V limited USB-C anyway. It's probably not that hard to implement as the cells are 4.2V anyway.

  9. I actually kinda wish they could have loaded all the usb-c stuff into a barrel connector. Imagine having no polarity issues.

  11.  @vylbird8014  There's actually a good reason to do positive on the outside of barrel connectors. The disconnect mechanism on barrel sockets is typically on the outer sleeve. If you have a dual battery/external power device, you would typically want to disconnect/switch the positive and keep common ground. Dave from EEVBlog went into it on one of his videos. We do seem to have settled on center positive as a semi-standard in current times though.

  13. Higher power cables are supposed to have an ID chip. Of course, quality control is still an issue.
