I only drive on tarmac so we don't need knobbly tires. In fact, it would be easier to just do away with tread entirely.

A lot of what Brodie reads from these people sounds like idealism and not rational pragmatism.

@SmplySilver Yes. This mode of thought needs to be unlearned by people. Why support multi-windows apps? Because why not, that's why. It's the job of this kind of thing to serve the users and application developers not for them to bow down to arrogant devs. Big red flag and a sign of likely ultimate failure.

@AndRei-yc3ti A heavy refactor of X would probably be the best way forward in my opinion. Though I welcome competing options. Unfortunately, too many devs, especially younger ones, are divas. It took me a good few years to get that knocked off myself (and then, not all of it, to be honest).

That also plays into virtual desktops.

@pastenml Cathedral vs bazaar. Wayland appears to want to be a cathedral.

@alexhajnal107 Just wanted to say I'm liking the cut of your jib in this comments section.

80/20 rule. (Or one of them - it seems there are several. It's the one that states 80% of the work takes 20% of the time).

@alexhajnal107 X does have a lot of issues. But if you've ever read the joelonsoftware paper on what not to do with software, he explains that those issues in existing software are often there for a reason. I have no issues with people experimenting with new paradigms but this doesn't seem the place to be doing it.

Yep. Mobile has caused a lot of problems. Should have learned from the Microsoft experience.

Which is an issue in itself. Relative layouts are fine and good but often applications have a good reason to do these things and the underlying software should accommodate that.

@CptJistuce The truth is that these developers don't know what my app needs so they should let me decide that. Inform me of the capabilities, let me make suggestions for placement in as many ways as possible then honor them or not (preferably inform me if not).

You could even be really radical and look at how un*xes have done it.
