Yeah, There's a lot of things that have a different perspective historically. If you look at an old typewriter, it often won't have a 1 since you would use lower case L instead. Also, ancient languages didn't have a word for blue. Crazy. (I'm a Brit FWIW)

You could also use two liquids. This might lead to other possibilities. Like if you shook it up, you might be able to confuse someone as to which was which because of the time to settle out.

I'm aware of the Sierpinski triangle and pyramid and they're cool but the squares/cubes were the real mind-blowing things to me. It feels like there might be something profound there. I don't know if it has any relation but it kind of puts me in mind of k-space.

Given that an icosahedron has as many faces as the dodecahedron has vertices and vice versa, I wonder if this has a corollary rule for icosahedrons.
