They probably design it that way in case they need the amber section for export. Why not just go the extra step?

It's usually more expensive to have two configurations for market than one. And sure, you save on one bulb per side but you then need to have something that duplexes the signals (though that can be handled with software these days).

Definitely you need to be able to turn them off but I think he just means that auto should be a setting you can leave the lights turned to. Of course, this might just lead to more people accidentally turning them off then forgetting and expecting the auto to turn them on. There could always be an indicator for that though.

You could even tint the lens a little bit (though I'm not sure this would be legal everywhere).

Good video. One thing I'd say is that if they don't like the look of the orange, they could just make it clear and use an orange bulb. They already have to have a clear lens for the reversing light anyway. On that subject, I believe Chevy has recently taken to turning on the reversing lights for a period when the vehicle is exited and doors are locked. Everyone is used to this meaning the vehicle is about to reverse so it causes all sorts of fun in parking lots. Perhaps Chevy designers are just learning impaired.
