Ramen need to be cooked for a while in my experience. A kettle works fine for cup noodles though. I actually prefer mine with the soup reduced to almost no loose liquid too.

@krzysztofczarnecki8238 Mine has a beep so loud, I've considered disconnecting the speaker. It's a Bosch cordless and it echoes around the house in the middle of the night.

I would just point out that it's common in kettley households to use the kettle to preheat water before using it on the stove. They're not just for tea. Though on that subject, things have changed now but it used to be the primary way of drinking coffee in the UK was instant coffee. Thus, truly multi-purpose. One also shouldn't forget things like hot chocolate, instant mashed potatoes and there are a variety of food products in the US where it is suggested to heat on the stove or microwave that work perfectly well with added hot water from the kettle. Since the kettle is typically left out on the counter, it is a very convenient way to get water going without having to dig out pots/pans etc.

There is actually a standard outlet. You just don't really see it much in residential use. It has one or both pins turned horizontal (not to be confused with the outlet that has a different one of the pins turned horizontal for higher current).

@juststeve5542 There is a version here which is somehow even worse.

You need to check that "extra cost". Gas is typically cheaper than electricity even if it is less efficient in heating this way.

Bear in mind you have to consider the efficiency of the conversion at the power station (for electricity sourced from fossil fuels. Other sources get more complicated). Our gas burners also stopped our house from freezing when the electricity was out. For most people, the most sense is probably to consider the cost.

@juststeve5542 No. Though there are some new ones out that are not too bad. There's a Korean Barbecue one that's not too terrible.
