@kephir4eg Thing is, my current dryer is still churning along after 22 years. With my experience with recent appliances, it would be a hard sell to get me to spend money on something that might not last long enough to make up the price difference.

A well insulated freezer doesn't need much cooling though so that's kind-of mismatched.

Interesting fact, the AUS power socket started out as a US 240V socket but is no longer current. The US does have 240V but it's wired only to a few locations. Weirdly it has at least five "standard" sockets for 240V.

The main issue is the heat exchanger. Not enough surface area and it's slow, too much and it clogs up with lint. I wonder how they've got around that.

They are also less susceptible to damage and require less maintenance and damage investigation tools and techniques are quite advanced now. The last comprehensive study I saw, they came out about equal cost-wise with the benefit of burying that the environment looks a lot nicer. I live in an old, pretty neighborhood but look up and it's ugly wires everywhere.

I got one. Propane is definitely the way to go for keeping things non-messy and nice smelling. Then keep some gas back for emergencies.

@holben27 It's so cheap that it's often burned because the cost of transporting it isn't worth it. Some places are now using the gas to generate electricity and mining Bitcoin.

@C0deH0wler Definitely. Though I replaced a dishwasher a few years ago because it was breaking as I was making repairs and the replacement is simply not as good. I also have a 25 year old fridge which is running fine while I'm on my third newer fridge. I count both as huge wastes of resources.

I had one in the UK. I hope they've improved. It took forever to run and the clothes weren't all the way dry in the end. We ended up buying an extra dryer just to keep up.

Surely that's for installation of the breaker box and is to account for upgrades such as this. What would be the purpose of requiring spare breaker slots always?

That's largely due to the lack of pressure in the hot-water systems of many UK homes. The main issue is if you live in a hard-water area, they scale up something rotten and aren't very serviceable.
