The House gathers evidence to determine if charges are to be brought against the president/cabinet member/VP/judge or federal employee. Those charges form the articles of impeachment. If charged, that individual has then been impeached. The articles of impeachment are handed over to the Senate to aquit or be found guilty of the charges. If guilty, that individual is removed from office. This part is the trial. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides as judge. The members of the Senate act as jury.
