Taking off shoes in the house is a foreign concept to Americans.

@hi.rinaOFFICIAL We take ours off indoors but it is seldom done in most American homes.

The art of miniturizing trees in Japan is called "bone sigh", not "bahnz eye".

@neildepressedtyson540 You can clearly see that this is not a Persian rug. The fringe is sewn on to the ends, not part of the foundation. It is a machine made rug.

@ericae5544 We started taking our shoes off when we 1st got wall to wall carpeting. It wasn't that common when I was a kid. New houses still had hardwood floors. I became a Buddhist at twenty and we met in Japanese American homes. I've been taking my shoes off at the door since that time. I don't know of any other group of Americans who do that.

Machine made rug, not a Persian rug. Is the pile even of wool? How does any rug become as filthy as that?

I have 40 handmade rugs.

@Chaermandr The subject is rugs.

@vaderladyl It's not rude to ask a stranger to take his shoes off if everyone else in the house is shoeless. I can't imagine someone so staid that he would be offended about something so minor as removing his shoes.
1
@vaderladyl No one expects service workers to take their shoes off. They are expected to lay down tarps in their work area. Your country must be filled with fragile psyches if removing your shoes is an in surmountable expectation.
1
@vaderladyl Exactly as I said, fragile psyches. Once your hillbilly friends started wearing shoes there was no getting them off. Our social circle includes Japanese, Koreans, Indians, people from Portugal, Brazil, Venezuela and Indonesia. They have no qualms about removing their shoes. No one has to be asked. Apparently they are more considerate and conscientious than the yokels you invite into your home.

So mi$$y has a jillion dollar$ worth of clothe$. Don't get caught wearing the same thing 2X.

1-3 years is too often to wash a hand made rug. 5-7 if it is in an area of only moderate use like a formal living room or dinning room. The filthy rugs in this video look like they were in high traffic areas and are probably being washed for the 1st time after years of abuse and neglect. Nothing like a clean rug!

@Meidaneh_Shush It's very expensive to have rugs washed in the U.S. generally around $3. USD per sqft.
1
@ruffain I've bought rugs at estate sales cheaper than what it costs to wash them. BTW, what country are you from?
1
@ruffain I worked in rug sales for 8 years and have been collecting them for 50 years. There are very few Kashmiri rugs in the U.S. I've only seen them on the secondary market here. Usually 3x5 feet size. Well made with attractive colors, but very few in number.
1
@ruffain No Kashmiri dealers bringing them into the country. I have around 40 rugs. Coarse to good quality rugs from Kurd Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey. Fine silk outline Iran Isfahans of 400-500 KPSI. (6) Silk Turkey of 600 KPSI and 1 silk Chinese of 1200 KPSI. Among others. Cost range from $3-$100 per square foot.
1
@ruffain 600, silk on silk small prayer design Turkish and wool and silk on cotton foundation, 9x12 Persian Nain. 1200 silk on silk Persian design Chinese. 400-500 wool and silk on silk foundation Persian Isfahans.
