@gerry343 Freud was a brilliant colorist. The portraits, while disturbing, have a powerful presence and real life qualty to them. He is too intellectually compelling for the average viewer and to those with only a casual interest in 20th century art.

@neoaureus One must think deeply to enjoy Freud's work. No one has said upon viewing Freud at first sight "She's so pretty!" or "My! What a handsome man he is." The brilliance is in the execution of the work itself. One is not a viewer of Freud's work, he is a voyeur.
