  1. The original pledge of allegiance didn't include the USA. "I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the republic for which it stands. One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." It had been a totally universal declaration. As you know, the 'under god' part was anti-Communist rhetoric added to exclude State sponsored atheists.
