  1. During the period of habitation, the climate was ideal for growing crops, hunting game, raising wild turkeys and living in permanent dwellings. A similar situation existed on the Nebraska prairie in the 1880s. Abundant rainfall provided a limitless opportunity to grow kitchen gardens and provide turf for building sod homes. Buffalo chips provided enough fuel for cooking and heating also. It was a prairie Eden until climate change made eeking out a living impossible.

  2. ​ @westho7314  You're assuming that all of the building materials were originally in pristine condition. Even a minor beetle infestation in the lintel, when harvested, would have completely destroyed it within a few decades after it was incorporated into the doorway.
