Bill Clinton was not a “once in a generation political talent,” he was a hack who benefited from a multi billionaire running twice and getting enough of the vote to allow a minority of voters to elect him. He lost seats in the House and Senate instantly for his party and never regained control. He was not at all a good politician.

robinsss H. Ross Perot. In 1992 Jerry Brown fought Clinton tooth and nail as did a dying Paul Tsongas. Brown in 1992 -pre-Internet as we know it, ran a campaign where he limited contributions to $100 and Brown stayed in until June. Tom Harkin and Dick Gephardt also ran against Clinton, but were out after Iowa in 1992.

robinsss in 1992 the candidates were not the same people they were following the November election. I also had no control over who ran. I could merely report the facts of who ran. In1992 Jerry Brown was well to the left of Jerry Brown today. Losing to Bill Clinton in the primary caused that move.

robinsss I was 15 when I watched the first New Hampshire primary debate in 1991/1992. I supported Brown at the time because I knew his self-imposed money in politics cap on contributions was already the most important issue of the election. I convinced both of my parents to vote for Brown in the NY primary that year. That fall I convinced my friend who turned 18 at the registration deadline to register to vote and he voted for Perot who I likewise voted for in 1996 because he was right about NAFTA. Honestly the elections were pretty bad in the 1990s in terms of the choices we had.
