Well Putin invaded Georgia along with Ukraine & has had Russian forces occupying part of Georgia for 14 years, so I could understand some Georgian animosity towards Russia and solidarity with Ukraine in the country. The former Georgian President you mentioned is very pro-western and did implement several key reforms gearing Georgia towards a more robust free market orientation, while also fighting a lot of the corruption that was far more pronounced in Georgia before his election, so I can see why he is a symbol of solidarity with Ukraine.
