You're wrong, about there having only ever been one Depression, but thanks for playing. There was a Depression in the United States in the 1870s. From 1873 to 1879 or possibly 1896 depending on who you read, the Long Depression as it was known in Great Britain was an extensive downturn that hit the United States and Europe the hardest. Before the 1930s it had been known as the Great Depression in the United States and now it is mostly known as the Long Depression. Some of the triggers included the demonetization of silver in Germany and the US, the Franco-Prussian War, the Great Chicago and Boston Fires of 1871 and 1872, over-speculation in railroads in the United States, the depletion of banking reserves in New York and financial failures in the Vienna markets.
