  1. Lake Placid was not hurt by hosting the Olympics. It like most winter Olympic Mountain Towns is small. Of course the state was going to foot most of the bill. The village of Lake Placid is one of the most visited tourist locations in Upstate NY to this day. They capitalize on the Miracle on Ice to this day. If you want to see how much it didn't hurt the town just drive up for Columbus Day weekend any year to see how busy it is during the leaf peeping season, not to mention the hectic summer trade or winter trade. There is one month a year locals take a break from tourists, November, why? Because the leaves are gone and the snow isn't there yet usually.
