Bitcoin is going to break the dollar because of this crap. Before this is all said and done the Saudis will price crude in Bitcoin or some other decentralized digital hard currency.

@dmillzzz1918 name a practical value of gold. It is a fiat currency too. The difference is Bitcoin has a truly finite supply.

@dmillzzz1918 in the next two decades someone is going to lasso an asteroid four or five miles long and two or three miles wide made up 99% of gold and platinum and when that material enters the market place you will find that the supply of those materials are not so finite, and more importantly in the case of the gold it has very little practical use to give it value and it is just another Fiat currency. All currency is Fiat currency. It is all just an artificial means of storing value. The difference between Bitcoin and gold is that people can't lasso an asteroid and mine more than the 21 million Bitcoin allowed by the algorithm. They can create alternatives which are other currencies with their own rules and will. What Bitcoin does and what all crypto currencies do that you fail to see is decentralize economic power in a nontrivial and novel way.

Governments are irrelevant. The future is stateless. That is why Bitcoin or another hardened digital currency will supplant the dollar, Yuan, Eruo, Pound, Yen, and Rubble.
