I live in the US in a reasonably affordable, but not unpopulated area. He got someone to come out to fix something in 3 days, that must be nice. We called multiple people -including a relative who we have no problem paying market rate, to do a relatively minor chimney repair, ie putting a cap on it after a heavy rainstorm had chriosol soak through into the drywall. We called them in August. A few came out to look at the job about two weeks later. We agreed upon a price, they said it was about a two hour job. We had more than one person say they could do it. No one has actually showed up to do it. It's November. This misconception that the US is service oriented needs to go away. It is not the case.

On a different note in regards to how long it takes to get work done in the States now. We had a 35 year old hot water heater spring a slow leak in the bottom. It was a drip not a spring, so not ultra emergent, but a problem. It took 6 weeks to get that changed out. 6 weeks. So 3 days in my experience is fast.
