I think between the immutable file system of SteamOS, the incorporation of flatpaks into SteamOS's standard design, and it's adoption of KDE Plasma as it's desktop environment, especially with Pipewire and Wayland becoming standard, the odds of proprietary developers releasing a Linux version supported at least for a curated distro like SteamOS even potentially as a paid version of Flathub or via an expanded storefront on Steam providing productivity software in addition to games is quite likely in the near future.

  2. @Watcher Adobe is becoming less important with every iteration of Davinci Resolve and Fusion. With Maya, Nuke, and Blender all available for Linux, as well as LightWorks, every day Adobe stays off Linux they become less relevant. Windows is too unstable for most of Hollywood and the Mac tax is just not worth the cost with the lack of performance.

  3. Let's be realistic. Google Chrome is on Linux because Google knows that a lot of web developers and developers in general use Linux on the desktop & they want those developers to optimize sites for Google Chrome, so they make it as easy as possible for developers to do that. As Steve Ballmer once said, "developers, developers, developers, developers...."

  4. My sister's laptop was running slow, but it's got a 2012 i7 with 4 cores and 8 threads, so it's not underpowered. It had 8GB of DDR3, but only a 2ghz wifi card. I upgraded her to 16GB of RAM, and a dual band wifi card and replaced her 2.5 inch HDD with an SSD. I told her I could reinstall Windows 10 or I could set her up with Manjaro, because Windows 11 is not allowed on hardware that old. She was mad at Apple for slowing down phones. Microsoft pissed her off and she no longer needed Windblows for work because they eliminated the Windows only things she used to have to deal with. I put Manjaro on the new SSD after the upgrade and she cannot believe how fast it runs now. After that upgrade she is questioning the IT admin at the school where she works insistence that they replace their desktops with Chromebooks. She wants them to upgrade the SSDs and switch to Linux and save money and she is putting up a stink about it at staff meetings.

  7. I think Trelby with a super simple interface and easy to use macros is the best screenwriting software I have ever used.

  8. Flatpak does away with redundancies as much as it can, which is to a degree better than AppImages, but they both have their merits and drawbacks.
