  2. I think history repeats itself. There was a time in Spanish history after 1492 when not being able to read was a sign of distinction. The Spanish aristocracy could boast to be unable to read. Spain of course never recovered from that mentality. After a peak of ruling the planet. Look at Germany after 1933. Or Iran which went from regional superpower and open society to a basket case. Or the Arabs in general. All of these cultures went down the drain.
