Peter Peter Pumpkin eater. I learned that Poem in Philly in the 60's. The Mennonites are allowed to drive cars, the Amish generally use a Buggy driven by Horses.. Communities have their own special rules to live by. Electricity it's forbidden to use in the house, Exceptions are made for Electricity. Such as Work related, Phone. Electricity, can be used in a Barn , work shed The Homes use gas for heating, cooling, cooking etc.
My wife's mother and father were the last Mennonites in her family. We live in the Amish area of Chester County borders Lancaster.
You got the dialect right. Biggest thing I noticed. They speak Dutch in a very low voice, like mumbling. I was told it goes back to abuse received for not fighting in war,, others would sign up for Services in Hospital work to escape abuse. Fromd American Revolution, Civil Was, WWI, WWII.. Well that's the rumor..
They farm using Horses ,When the families get larger They build another home on their property. Common 3,4,5 homes linked to together.
The coolest thing to me, they use the entire basement as a Kitchen and Pantry..

I think it depends where you live, rural, small towns YES. NYC , could care less where you from.
USA is huge 3,000 miles long and 1,200 wide maybe and each state is different, different laws.
Another thing people overlook is American teenagers and the relationship with the car. The combination inspired a lot of rock n roll. The car gave 16,17,and 18 year old freedom.
"No Particular Place to go", "Maybelline", "Thunder Road".
